With Stasis technology licensed from Threshold. This is the original version with design input from Nelson Pass. While the later II version also used Stasis technology, Mr. Pass stated in his Stereophile interview that his design was the original, not the later version. Well, they didn’t just license STASIS. Rather, the first generation of the PA-7 is a direct copy of the equivalent Threshold amp (S300 II). A lawsuit ensues, then Nakamichi releases the PA-7II with an altered design providing 25 more WPC (watts per channel) and a higher price tag. But everyone knew then and knows now that the original PA-7 was, “the one to get”. EDIT: I received a few questions regarding this pre: Blue Boards: I had completely forgotten about the blue board thing. I never took pics through the top vents and I dont show any notes in my records to confirm this is the blue board version. Im not up to unwrapping/rewrapping; so, if this is critical to you, and you purchase and find its not blue boards, I will accept return. Jumpers: I do not have the original CD jumper pair. The passive mode bypasses everything except the input selector and the very high quality low-noise volume knob. It also includes a Processor loop which can be used as a HT bypass. So: exemplary solid state performance, HT bypass, 3 outputs, remote = the perfect preamp for a combined HT/stereo rig. I bought and used one of these for years in my best den rig which also served HT duties: By connecting my AVR front preouts to the 750’s processor input, I could use my higher end amplifier and speakers in the HT rig and not have the clutter of separate HT speakers AND get much better front L&R sound. I also occasionally used the Processor loop to inject some tube soul with the little Dared SL-2000 preamp. My Uncle was the original owner and he had a pair of these running mono to a set of Klipschhorns for about 30 years.
