Item Description M-XB-443 Nakamichi 680zx 1980 High-end 3-head cassette deck, famous 680ZX, beautiful, rare, fully working Description:. Two-speed cassette deck with auto azimuth alignment. The 680ZX is available in standard speed and half speed. It is equipped with an auto-azimuth alignment function that automates azimuth adjustment. This allows adjustment simply by loading the tape to be recorded and turning on the calibration switch, and the adjustment is complete when the indicator on the play button stops blinking. In actual operation, when the calibration switch is turned ON, the built-in 400 Hz 0 dB test signal is turned ON and this is recorded. Then, the immediately reproduced 400Hz sine wave signal is converted to a square wave, and the phase discrimination circuit detects the advance (delay) between the left and right channels. This phase shift activates the switching circuit to control the output of the operational amplifier. Depending on whether the right channel advances or lags behind the left channel, the positive or negative voltage applied to the output of the operational amplifier = motor terminals changes, and the direction of rotation of the motor changes. This moves a lever connected to the reduction gear to adjust the tilt angle of the recording head. The mechanism uses a frequency-distributed double capstan system. This system reduces modulation noise and various disturbances by using a double capstan system in which the tape is held firmly by two pinch rollers and a capstan. In addition, by focusing on the flutter component caused by the correlation between the capstan and the tape, the two capstan diameters are changed to avoid the overlap of flutter peaks and improve the characteristics. In the single capstan method, contact between the tape and head is secured by the crimping force of the head pad installed in the cassette tape, but in the double capstan method, a constant tape tension is always applied between the two capstans, eliminating the need for a head pad. For this reason, a pad lifter is installed to eliminate the head pad and suppress characteristic changes.
