Der UnitiServe lädt zu jeder importierten CD Metadaten (Coverabbildungen, Titel sowie Interpreten- und Komponistennamen) von allmusic.com herunter und speichert sie in seiner Musikdatenbank – auch wenn die CD-Daten selbst auf einem externen Laufwerk abgelegt werden. Dank dieser Datenbank können Sie Ihr Musikarchiv nach jedem gespeicherten Begriff durchsuchen und behalten stets den Überblick. Statt eine eingelegte CD einfach abzuspielen, liest der UnitiServe automatisch ihre Audiodaten aus und speichert sie auf einer internen Festplatte, sodass sie zu jedem späteren Zeitpunkt wiedergegeben werden können. Der UnitiServe kann Audio-CDs entweder im Format WAV oder FLAC speichern und parallel dazu MP3-Kopien der Audiodateien erstellen; die MP3-Kopien können in Wiedergabesituationen eingesetzt werden, in denen eine geringere Dateigröße von Vorteil ist. Er kann außerdem von externen Quellen stammende Audiodateien in den unterschiedlichsten Formaten und Auflösungen (inklusive hochauflösende Audiodateien) speichern und abspielen. Die Funktionen des UnitiServe erschöpfen sich nicht darin, auf seiner internen Festplatte Audiomaterial zu speichern. Er bietet auch die Möglichkeit, Audiodaten auf NAS-Geräten (in das Netzwerk integrierte Geräte mit einer oder mehreren Festplatten) zu speichern und sonstige im Netzwerk gespeicherte Audiodaten (importierte CDs oder anderweitig erzeugte kompatible Dateien) abzuspielen. Der UnitiServe kann als UPnPTM-Server fungieren, d.h., er kann jedem ins Netzwerk eingebundenen UPnPTM-kompatiblen Abspielgerät Audiodateien zur Verfügung stellen. Zusätzlich zur Signalausgabe an den Digitalausgängen kann der UnitiServe bis zu sechs Audiostreams für die Wiedergabe in mehreren Zonen eines NaimNet/ StreamNet-Netzwerks zur Verfügung stellen. Wenn der UnitiServe die Audiodaten einer CD ausliest, greift er automatisch auf eine Musikdatenbank im Internet zu und lädt Informationen zu der CD herunter, beispielsweise Albumname, Titel, Interpret, Komponist, Genre und viele weitere Details. Diese Informationen können genutzt werden, um Musik auszuwählen, bestimmte Stücke zu suchen und Playlisten zu erstellen. Auch die Coverabbildung wird – wenn vorhanden – heruntergeladen und auf der Benutzerschnittstelle angezeigt. Abbildungen werden mit einer Auflösung von bis zu 1280 x 1280 Pixel gespeichert, sodass sie auf Hardware mit einer UnitiServe-Bedienoberfläche, beispielsweise einem iPad und dem App n-Serve, angezeigt werden können. Der UnitiServe kann auch wie ein herkömmlicher CD-Spieler genutzt werden. Eine in den CD-Einzug eingeführte CD kann direkt abgespielt werden, d.h., die Audiodaten werden nicht gespeichert, sondern sofort an die Digitalausgänge des UnitiServe geleitet. Der UnitiServe kann auf eine vom Webradiodienst vTuner bereitgestellte Senderliste zugreifen und Webradio-Streams abspielen. Bis zu 99 Webradiosender können als Presets gespeichert werden.
