This is a large 3-pice knob from a Naim Olive component (e.g. NAC62, NAC72, NAIT 2, NAP140, HiCap, etc.). This came in a box of spare parts I bought a while ago. These knobs consist of 3 main pieces, the domed cap, the rubber ring, and the back. It is common for the back part to break from over-tightening the grub screw. I created a new back part in CAD that I 3D printed. This back part is much tougher than the original part and uses a standard M3 screw and nut. Note that there are two versions of this olive knob, one designed for a friction fit on a flatted shaft, and one designed to clamp on to a round shaft with a screw. This design should work as a replacement for either version. Condition wise it is good but note that one edge has been smoothed/polished (as opposed to the original matte texture).

Naim Hicap Power Supply 1980s Chrome Bumper. Superb cosmetic condition - see photos Boxed in non Naim box, with original grey Naim SNAIC interconnect and Naim mains cable (Crabtree plug, with polished prongs) Holden & Fisher transformer - ultra quiet This Hicap has been slightly modified / upgraded in 2 ways - Firstly, the final 2 sockets have been changed to the newer Hicap type, so you can now use either the old grey SNAIC interconnects with locking prong, or the newer black SNAICS, with twist locking rings. Secondly, internally, the signal and power outputs have been removed from all but the final 2 sockets. Why has this been done? Well, 99% of Hicaps are used to power a preamp, which means that only the final 2 sockets are ever used and the rest are redundant, yet wired, which theoretically slightly reduces the overall sound quality. Look at the final 2 photos above. The first photo shows the normal Hicap configuration with all sockets wired, whilst the second photo shows this Hicap, with only 2 sockets wired. The theory is that by removing the unwanted wiring from sockets that are never normally used, the sound quality from the sockets that are used is upgraded. This Hicap certainly sounds very good (very similar to an identical unit that has just been serviced at Class A) so you would have to conclude that the mod works. With a little bit of soldering, it would be easy to reverse the mod, if required. However, you may prefer to leave it as it is, which is fine for normal pre / power use, as long as you are not using NAP 135 Power Amps (which require two 4 pin output sockets to be wired). There are two schools of thought when it comes to HiCap servicing - some people believe that the electrolytic and tant caps go soft with age and should be replaced with modern equivalents. Others believe that unserviced Hicaps, using the original long lasting as Julian Vereker meant it to be components sound best. The great thing about this particular Hicap is that you can go either way with it - either leave it as it is (sounds great!) or change the caps, if you wish (but keep the old ones, just in case!).
