The addition of these Power Amps into any system will incorporate the Naim sound, with improved pace, and timing, The 4 Power Amps was recapped by Naim between 2006-2008, The 4 Amps were used solely in my Active System, driving Activ Linn Kans. I am now getting up in years, and will soon be downsizing to a much smaller living quarters, so I will not have the room to drive a nine piece HiFi system. The cosmetic condition in the 4 amps ranges from Good to Excellent+. One amp has erosion near the bottom in a few spots. One of the amps is really nice, without a flaw I cn see. Another amp has a few light scratched on top, while another has a scuff that is somewhat visible. Hopefully, my pictures give you a good view. I will pack the 4 amps heavily protected in 4 big boxes, with plenty of bubble wrap. USPS Ground select is not cheap, coming in at about $100 for each amp. The original Naim power cable will be included. Two of the Amps have the Green LED working. The other 2 have the original Bulb, but the bulb will have to be replaced. . One pair of Naim 135 power amplifiers. One previous owner We supplied these new and he has just upgraded to a NAP 500 with us. Non smoking and no pet household. Consecutive serial numbers 117434 and 117435. They have been serviced with correct matched and calibrated parts at Naim Audio in Salisbury. This cost £800.00 and the amps will also come in £140.00 worth of brand new boxes and packing. Naim power amplifiers should be correctly serviced every 10 years so these will be fine until the next service in 2033. They are as good as it gets and authentic Naim. Although audio forums often big up alternative parts and modifications we very much prefer the sonic and musical performance of the real thing. I think there is a Silent Majority who agree that, as well as sounding better an Authentic Naim Amplifier has significant retained value over modified products which devalue and become very difficult to sell later. It is possible a modified amplifier may be hard to get repaired or serviced in a few years if the people who modify are longer trading. Some of these mods cost upwards of £8000.00 and an owner will be stranded later if there is a problem and the modifier is gone. As well as not getting how a properly set up system with freshly serviced standard Naim amplifiers can play engaging and thrilling music at high and low volume, the modifiers also dont get why authentic and un-modified Naim amplifiers are sought after. In some instances there is a box with a Naim logo but there is very little left of the original intentions of the manufacturer and the performance for some may be musically ruined compared to proper Naim . Points of interest: Julian Vereker knew far more than given credit for and understood things relating to performance that have been overlooked by third party modifiers for decades. Julian found that circuit tracks sounded better if shaped in a certain way, (thats all I can say as this came from Jason). The CAD design of the boards avoided the edges and sharp corners that other manufacturers and Naim improvers use. Many years later they found out why this sounded better (again I wont say why but Jason has explained Roy,s find), and the audio signal path of all Naim Amplifiers today contain these early discoveries right up to Statement. If you look on Youtube and look for Naim Audio 1989 you may get an insight into how they worked then and still work today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPfdERaAdNc I dont think this will link but its easy to find and worth a few minutes as its 35 years ago with some of the key people discussing a prototype board for the NAC 52 pre-amp which came out the following year. At 1 minute on the charming video you will see component matching and rejection of parts described as noisy. These components are fine for other hi-fi-Manufacturers to use, but this selection and testing is why proper Naim Amplifiers sound so good and have such a low noise-floor. Naim found in the past that available 1% tolerance capacitors sounded worse then another manufacturers 3% tolerance which is why they choose the latter. However they then match the 3% tolerance in pairs to something like 0.1% tolerance. giving the very best sound and channel matching. This important process is still used today but only available from a Naim factory service and Darren at Class A in Sheffield who is the only approved Naim service engineer who is allowed to buy the matched parts from Naim. Naim amplifiers, when designed and developed had a balance between things like the size of transformer, the make and model and storage capacity of the main reservoir capacitors and output stage. The reviewer Martin Colloms was here last year auditioning the Linn Karousel bearing and was good friends with Julian Vereker, Martin told me how this balance is ruined if any of those things were wrong. Naim use a specific size and make of capacitor and have auditioned and rejected many others including the commonly used Kendeil, preferring other makes that have to be purchased in very large quantity. However, the incorrect Kendeil capacitors are not only used by most if not all of the modifiers but the value is always increased as they mistakenly think bigger is better rendering the amp even futrher from balance still. Naim use specified 15000uF capacitors in 135s whereas the mods use 22000uF or above and this is just one thing among many that ruin the performance. When the original Naim Nait went into production in 1983 one review was interesting as the reviewer replaced the reservoir capacitors with bigger as an experiment. He was staggered by the all over the place dulled and unmusical sound it made before reverting back to the Naim specified capacitors. With the smaller capacitors the balance and musical performance was retained. Both Naim and Darren at Class A in Sheffield, who is the only Naim approved service agent have to try to undo modified amplifiers but many are beyond viability as so much has been changed. Although there are many well meaning repairers around they do not work to Naim standards and will have to substitute correct measured parts with non Naim and non matched and measured alternatives, as they cannot get the special parts from Naim. Darren at Class A is the only person who can work to the correct standard with measured and matched Naim supplied parts as he is the only UK approved service agent. This matters and selling a product that has been serviced must be looked into as many are from 3rd party repairers and not Naim or Class A. An owner might also try to keep secret that the amp for sale is modified. I showed some of these things a couple of years ago when we had our last pair of 135s. Toys were thrown out of the pram by several who make a living undoing Naim amplifers. They hate this information and their prickly attitude quickly came to the fore. I received some emails along the line of are they as good as ******* conversion upgrades or the boast of If only Naim could work to my standard. My experience is based on 40 years in the industry as a Naim Retailer. In fact I owned a fantastic Naim Six-Pack Isobarik system in the 1980s and still enjoy unadulterated Naim products from that time today. When Martin Colloms was here I used a newly serviced Chrome Bumper Naim 62/Hi-Cap and NAP 160 for the comparison and with his knowledge and experience he was unsurprised how musical and engaging it sounded almost 40 years later. This experience and knowledge is something they are worried about as they rely on being bigged up on forums and dont want anyone to know the other side. The owner of these 135s has just upgraded to a NAP500 with us. One small thing is that the original packing was damaged the last time they went to Naim in about 2011 resulting in a small flat on one of the rear lower corners on one amp. This is at the rear and cannot be seen in use. This is shown against a ballpoint pen in the last photo. This time we invested in new packing to ensure this cannot happen again. Apart from this they are immaculate. They have correct Crabtree Naim IEC mains leads and the later and better sounding green/pink separate channels Preh DIN to Nylon Cannon XLR plugs. We also were able to specify brand new NADi LED bars which backlight the Naim Audio logo on both amplifiers. One was out and Naim replaced both with new as part of the service. These LED NADI backlights aer no longer made but Naim and Class A still support when doing proper servicing on unmodified Naim amplifiers. The buyer of these unmodified and Proper Naim factory serviced amplifiers will NOT be up a creek without a paddle, as warned about alternatives when I placed this listing. It has now happened!. A well known modifier has gone out of business. The owners of their work will face a problem in future as the modifications and incorrect parts may mean it could be very difficult to have repaired if faulty. I guess sellers will try to hide the provenance and wont be showing non-Naim or Class A service sheets. There was a grubby and dusty, one owner who purchased new Naim Nait 2 on eBay recently that was in a small cabinet perched on a Mini-Disc player surrounded by mains adaptors and dusty cables. It sold for almost £1000.00 and was heavily bid. The reason?. Authenticity and never serviced. It had not suffered someones idea of making it better and the buyer was sure it was the real thing and worth booking for a proper Naim service after purchase. Also still visible on completed listings is a pair of 135s recently sold as serviced by Naim and one photo clearly shows a paid invoice from a well known 3rd party outfit and NOT Naim Audio. I would suggest that they were being sold as the owner realised that his system no longer meeting his previous expectations, and again non- Naim matched parts and the dreaded oversized Kendeil capacitors would have illustrated this compared to another pair he sold which were Class A serviced and would have been good. But using all four would have been bad and it active connected with a Naim NAXO with something like Naim SBLs a complete disaster. ( look for a connection diagram on Google images and you will be horrified). These modules are rarely available nowadays - in fact thats an understatement, they are like the proverbial hens teeth to get hold of!! These modules were also employed by Naim in their NAP 135 monoblock amplifiers - one regulator in each of a pair of amplifiers. Please be aware that the many cheap Chinese clone NAP250 regulator boards and modules available on ebay are NOT the same circuit as the original Naim regulator modules. They have been cleverly made to look similar, but they dont regulate the power supply the way the Naim ones do. I know because Im an electronics engineer and I bought some of the cheap regulators and traced the circuit. The performance of the cheap regulators is severely sub-standard (poorer regulation, increased noise), so there must be a lot of disappointed people who have bought them and wondered why their amplifiers dont sound so good!
