Update 4/7/24; I have added a red Power LED to identify the On/Off status during 3020 mode. I have updated the first two photos. This 7225PE is a real beauty inside! Its a later production model with all-electronic On/Off muting and thermal protect muting. All components are original except as upgraded below. Cosmetically, it has marks on the front panel and top cover. There is also a scratch just below the Balance knob. Please see Photos. For those interested only in its 3020 integrated amplifier section, I have added a TUNER_ON/OFF Switch to remove power from and completely shut down the Tuner section. Note that the Display and LEDs will be off as well, so I have installed a red Power LED by the Power Switch for when the Tuner is OFF. Tuner OFF mode eliminates any potential crosstalk from Tuner signals into the audio path, and also saves 5 watts of power consumption. The preamp output to power amp input loops allow this unit to be used in a larger system as a Preamp/Tuner, Phono Preamp, and/or Power Amp. The preamp outputs are also suitable for a powered subwoofer. The audio caps have been upgraded to nichicon Bipolar, MUSE and FW / Fine Gold Audio, while the Power supply caps are nichicon, Rubycon, Panasonic, and CDE/Ilinois Capacitor. The new tuner audio caps are ELNA. I have upgraded the 4 sensitive trimmers for Power Amp Bias and Offsets to multi turn equivalents. They allow for more precise adjustments that will not be accidentally bumped out of spec. I have also configured this unit to operate as a 7020i (or 3020i integrated amp section) by removing the PE Supply fuses. This not only protects the output transistors from over-voltage damage possible with PE enabled, but also more faithfully reproduces the operating conditions of the original 3020. Schematically, the amplifiers are virtually identical, but the PE boost to 82V is beyond the 60V rating of the output transistors. I will send the fuses or reinstall them in at your request. This receiver powers p and works but does have some quirks.The volume comes out one side stronger than the other and the pots are scratchy.When you move them around the sound comes back in.Could use a good going hough and cleaning.
