This NAD 7000 Monitor Series is a integrated amplifier with Phono Preamp for MM/MC and AM/ FM Stereo Receiver that has 40 watts per channel if left in amp mode. As it is one of the better NAD units (7000) series it can be converted into a Pre/Amp with all the above capabilities by simply unplugging the jumpers between Pre and Main then plugging your amplifier into it into the pre inputs as I have been doing for several years running a tube amplifier and old I-Pod in my office. The tape selector switch on the front has a twerk bend in the lever that does not affect its operation but the tape 2 button is missing. I never used the tape functions so I never fixed. This 7000 has been refurbished and recapped as detailed below. I am also including a 6 button basic remote programmed for Power On/Off, Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute (Low Level), Tape_1, and Tape_2 input selects. This will provide three remotely switchable source selections; Tape_1, Tape_2, and the selected input (Phono, Tuner, CD, or Video). 1) Upgraded Electrolytic Capacitors in the amplifiers, power supplies, and tuner audio sections. The audio coupling caps are WIMA Film at the Phono Input, Nichicon MUSE Bipolar and Fine Gold Audio. The power supply caps are typically higher voltage and/or 105C temp rated.The Main Capacitors are new 6800uf/50V Panasonic and the Power Envelope Capacitors are new 6800uf/80V nichicon. 2) Upgraded overheating resistors. Two of the 1/4 W resistors in the power amp are specified on the schematic to be 1/2 W and actually dissipate over 1/4 W. They get so hot that theyve discolored the PC board. Ive replaced them with 1W metal film resistors and elevated them away from the PC board surface. 3) Disabled Soft clipping. This circuitry is another hot spot on the 2240PE/3240PE/7240PE and 7000 Main Boards due to underrated components. It also contains a small coax cable with 140 VDC across it, which is rather dangerous for the unsuspecting. Im not a fan of soft clipping on this model, so I disconnected the 140 V coax and removed the coupling caps from the power amp input section. No more non-linear signal loading, heat or potential shock hazard. 4) The Offset and Bias trimpots have been upgraded to multi turn equivalents for more accurate adjustments that are less likely to drift. It provides 40 WPC RMS with 6 dB of headroom for up to 160 WPC IHF, all with a Power Transformer that is relatively small and lightweight. Quite an impressive design with a spectacular sound. The Phono Preamp is the same all-discrete 4-transistor design that NAD used for years beginning with the 3020A and continuing into the Monitor Series. The 7000 has the low noise version with the MM/MC gain select switch and Infrasonic Filter. The tuner section is noteworthy for its superior FM sound quality and switchable FM noise reduction (FM Blend). Even the AM sounds good.
