This is a great example of a very popular and highly regarded cassette deck that has been carefully serviced and tested. NAD really put effort into the sonic performance of their designs, the NAD 6240 is a fabulous sounding machine, built on the same tape transport as the award-winning 6220, which earned Cassette Deck of The Year from What Hi-Fi in 1987. The 6240 is a rare model and this is the first example of this model that we have had through our workshop. As far as we know, the 6240 is the only deck that combines the stylish and fantastic sounding transport from the 6220 with advanced features normally found only on NAD’s higher end machines, including variable bias, ‘Play Trim’ and ‘DYNEQ’ (see below for more on these fabulous features). As well as fantastic styling, in keeping with the usual NAD minimalistic look, it has an impressive feature set, highlights of which include:-Dolby B & C noise reduction -Tape type selection for bias and EQ, covering all popular tape types-DYNEQ (from Tandberg Audio) -Soft touch controls and full auto stop-Switchable MPX filter for off-air recordings-NAD’s Play Trim feature – for adjusting playback frequency response-Variable bias control for optimal recording quality-High-precision, low-flutter tape transport-Low noise, high grade electronics This deck includes NAD’s unique ‘Play Trim’ and ‘DYNEQ’ features. Play Trim works like a subtle treble tone control, changing characteristics of the equalisation circuit during playback. It is intended to boost or lower the level of high frequency sounds to compensate for music that has been recorded on another deck, with incorrect bias setting or to correct for azimuth misalignment between two machines. This is a really nicely implemented control - it changes the sound subtly and is very usable for bringing recordings to life. DYNEQ varies the record equalisation to prevent over saturation when strong high frequency transients occur. A printed copy of the original instruction booklet from NAD will be included, so you can get the most out of this fantastic machine. This deck has been serviced, including cleaning and checking all belts – replacing where necessary, cleaning the switches and testing and cleaning the internal electrical contacts. The electrical alignment has been checked, using a test cassette, signal generator, oscilloscope and external level meters. This process covers the recording levels, playback levels, meter calibration, bias and tape speed. It has been inspected for electrical safety and put through a full PAT test, in line with current guidance. It will be supplied with a brand-new mains plug that meets both CE marking and the new UKCA safety standards, and is fitted with the appropriate 3A fuse. The tape transport has been checked, cleaned and demagnetised. All rubber parts have been cleaned and treated with Rubber Renue, which restores them to their original specification and performance. Everything works as it should and the deck sounds fantastic. Cosmetically, this deck is in very nice condition. The front and back panels are in great shape with only the most minor signs of use. There are some light surface marks on the lid (as you often find with stackable Hi-Fi equipment), and a tiny bit of damage to the plastic at either end of the top surface of the fascia, but these imperfections are minor and may not even be visible once installed, and there really is nothing that takes away from the fantastic classic looks of this deck.
