Wonderful vintage kit. I dont have speakers to test it with anymore but was working GREAT on my Rega Elas. There was a short 2-3 seconds hum noise when powering off the unit in the last 2 months of using it, so a recap might be in order as its normal maintenance on these units. I flipped the case on the NAC 42, so its really a chrome bumper, I just reversed the case to match the power amp. Also, from the last picture, I presume that theres no phono onboard but never tested it since i dont own a TT. The white script is yellowed but can probably be cleaned off. The power din looks original to Naim (so I guess it is) but the interconnect is branded Chord Co. on the shrink tube. Im including manuals BUT they are NOT for the 90/42. One is for a TT, the other for an integrated amp. Enjoy!

Vintage Naim Audio Nac 42 Pre Amp + Custom Power Supply with RCA outputs. Custom features include custom power supply, custom RCA outputs added. Previous owner used this with a tube amp. Naim NAC 42 Preamp & NAP 140 Power Amp Chrome Bumper Serial Numbers NAC 42 - 10166 = 1983 NAP 140 - 34591 = 1987 Both in really good condition...small scratch on top of the NAP 140 and very feint, minor rubs on both...hardly noticeable. The sound is fantastic...I used an Arcam CD player (connected to the Tuner input) and my Mitchell Focus One turntable with Ortofon MM cartridge. The amps behaved perfectly. No phono boards in the NAC 42...but I use a MM preamp anyway. The NAC 42 Preamp is fitted with NA 328/2 boards designed to optimize CD use...but these can easily be swapped out for Naim phono boards if preferred. Supplied with original Naim mains cable and NA-51 Hicap interconnect. This setup does not need a Hicap, as the NAC 42 draws power from the NAP 140. Ive included lots of photos, both external and internal so you can see the full condition. Both units had perished rubber feet, so new ones are now fitted. I have no idea if these have ever been serviced...they could be original?...but the capacitors all look in good condition...and the sound (to my ears) is great. The NAC 42 was first put into production in 1979 and lasted until 1988 when it was replaced by the NAC 62. The unit we have here is a late second generation 42-5 which was built in 1987, and comes in good condition, with a few slight blemishes please see photographs. It has the NA322/2 Moving magnet Phonoboards fitted. Will be supplied in original factory packaging and of course comes with our standard 3 month warranty. NB SNAIC cable in final image is NOT included. Naim Say…. Naim Audio preamplifiers may be used with a variety of power amplifiers besides our own. They require an external regulated power supply. The power supply for your preamp is very important to its performance. The Naim NAP110 and 140 power amplifiers have a suitable regulated supply for the preamplifier built into them, though you may use a separate power supply if you wish. If you are using a Naim NAP 250 (or an amplifier made by another manufacturer) you will need a Naim SNAPS or HiCap preamp power supply. With NAP 135s, you will need a HiCap. A Link Plug is supplied with your preamp to fit the 240° 5 pin DIN socket on the right of the rear panel (the socket used for connection to a HI-CAP.) Leave the Link Plug in place unless you have a HiCap. The NAC 42-5 has three switch-selectable inputs, for phono, tuner, and tape. Either tuner or tape input may be used for compact disc. The tape socket combines input and output for recording and replay. There is a mute/monitor switch. The tape monitor switch allows you to listen to the output of the tape recorder whilst recording the source that you have chosen with the selector switch. This can be useful with a 3-head machine to monitor the “off-tape” signal while making a recording. In the “normal” position, the source selected will be fed to the power amp. In the “monitor” position, the output from tape 1 will be heard, unless tape 1 is chosen on the selector switch, when the output of tape 2 will be heard. With the monitor switch set at “mute”, there will be no output to the speakers, from any input. Tape, tuner, and NA 326 conversion of phono input, will accept up to 7.5V rms and are thus suitable for the output from a professional tape recorder or a compact disc player.
