Considered to be the best power amplifier they ever made in terms of sound quality, with a fairly beefy output at 250 watts (8 ohm) per channel. Unfortunately, it seems the amplifier is not a good match with my equipment or was damaged during shipping as there is an apparent hum/buzzing when powered up. This has been extensively upgraded and updated with top of the line parts without any compromise from the original design. All capacitors have been replaced and wiring has been upgraded amongst others as listed:• Kemet ALS10S Slit Foil PSU capacitors 10,000uF 80v which are all bypassed with TDK foil capacitors 0.1uF 400VDC. Unfortunately, it seems the amplifier is not a good match with my equipment or was damaged during shipping as there is an apparent hum/buzzing when powered up. This has been extensively upgraded and updated with top of the line parts without any compromise from the original design. All capacitors have been replaced and wiring has been upgraded amongst others as listed:• Kemet ALS10S Slit Foil PSU capacitors 10,000uF 80v which are all bypassed with TDK foil capacitors 0.1uF 400VDC. In addition, the capacitors have Mundorf capactor pads on the underside and all caps are wrapped in copper foil• All other capacitors replaced with Nichicon’s Gold Series and assorted caps – matched uF rating but higher specifications and voltage ratings• Ceramic capacitors replaced with WIMA foil capacitors• All foil caps (x15) replaced with are highly reated TDK/EPCOS foil capacitors 0.1uf 400vdc• Bridge rectifiers replaced with modern and higher spec Onsemi GBPC3504W• Kimber cable TCX 15 awg hookup wire and twisted for speaker outputs• Kimber cable TCSS 19 awg hookup wire for all signal path including the input board• Heatsinks added to select transistors for added stability• Fully biased to proper specifications with stable current and voltages on all matched output transistors.• Brand new input AC power filter• New Keratherm Red 86/82 thermal pads for all output transistors• Silver solder used throughoutThe upgrade parts alone are worth around $500 plus labour costs – and I would assume at least 10-15 hours, so most likely $1000-$1500 in labour alone. A fantastic amp and a great deal for someone who has the knowledge to look into this!
