You put the X-10D between your CD player and your preamp, active or passive. Or you can put it after your preamp, active or passive. Or you can put one X-10D before the preamp and another one after, if you like—which would have the effect of tubing everything before it goes to your power amp. Ive had this unit for many years and have used it off and on over that time.It had the original tubes but I tube rolled to get better sound. I eventually landed on Amperex (Bugle Boy) 7308, expensive but very long lived and sounds great. I did try other 6DJ8 variants (6DJ8/6922/7308) from different makers but the Amperex tubes worked best.
