This cartridge has a very low mass stylus so small it cannot be seen by my naked eye. It sounds wonderful and it shows little or no wear under a 200x microscope that it lit on both sides.It features a boron cantilever and a nude line contact stylus.The whole shebang is super small and delicate, so if you broke it… you bought it! It will be packed very securely. If youre in porch pirate country, I suggest you purchase additional insurance or at least let us know to require a signature upon delivery. Sold as described. Ive had this cartridge since the mid 80s. I know what your thinking... this things cant actually work anymore. It does, these cartridges used a special type of rubber for the cantilevel and it is still intact. I used this cartridge for years and it is tired and needs a rebuild. I really have no idea if someone is looking for one of these but I am listing it anyway. This was a Fantasic sounding cartridge and if rebuilt it would give someone great joy. You can look up the specs online. I took pictures of everything that is in the box and it is being sold AS-IS. No returns on this item.

This is because the output from the cartridge is at an extremely low signal level compared to other audio interconnect cables as you can see here;      • A Line level signal e.g. CD to Preamp - 2 Volts·  • A balanced cable with XLR’s - 4 Volts·          • Moving Magnet 5mV or 0.005V - one four hundredth of the size of line level       • Moving Coil typically 0.2mV or 0.0002V a ten thousandth of the size of line level    In this circumstance capacitance, SHIELDING and quality of the conductor and dielectric are the most important design parameters.    Single core coaxial cable offers the lowest capacitance and in this case 2 layers of shielding, with high purity copper conductor and braid Mylar / aluminium foil shield with polyethylene dielectric. (Most importantly the dielectric mustn’t contain PVC).   This is a significant step up over the manufacturers supplied cable, which will have lower quality copper and they usually use PVC dielectric. Studio Cable– typically used at this price e.g., Van Damme, Mogami etc) has 1.     Rely on “common mode noise rejection” circuitry at receiver and sender  2.     Higher capacitance due to additional conductors (usually 2 or 4) designed for use in equipment that is balanced at both ends and connected with 3 pin XLR plugs to be run at 4V. 3.     Usually have NO FOIL SHIELD, making it susceptible to high frequency interference when used in an unbalanced RCA cable for cartridges at tiny voltages 4.   Typically use PVC in the dielectric material, sometime combined with neoprene. This has a negative effect on sound quality. Cables designed for XLR studio cables (that and 4V signal) do not work well for these tiny signals from the cartridge.    In contrast single core coaxial cable has been used for over 100 years for everything from high frequency communications, musical instruments e.g. guitars, analogue video and of course audio where they have been the most common cable used for Radio Corporation of America plugs (RCA also called “phonos” as they were originally designed to connect a Phonograph (Record Player) to Radios of the time.      Burn In  As the signal from the cartridge is so small it will take years to burn in a tonearm cable so instead, I am sending a line level signal from my DAC through the cable to my pre-amp. This will burn in cable 10000x faster than a moving coil cartridge! While I have found that 24 hours of this does the trick for this premium cable, I extend this process to 48 hours. I am using the Tara Labs Cascade Burn in file – from their website… “The new CASCADE noise burn-in disc is a proprietary combination of white noise with frequency tone bursts and pink noise mixed at different levels. However, what makes it effective is a series of descending and ascending (cascading) multi-octave square sweeps for better and more complete results than any other “burn-in” discs that have been made to date. The CASCADE noise burn-in disc may be used with audio electronic component and with audio cable including cables with attachments such as batteries or filter networks. Before and after results will be obvious with any of these cables.”
