This is a pair of Monitor Audio Silver S8 floorstanding speakers in very good condition, functioning as designed, with fully intact drivers and crossovers. These were the last Monitor Audio Silver series made in England before production shifted to China, I believe, and were produced up until 2005. (The Silver S8s were followed by the Silver RS8s, RX8s, 8s, and 300s, in order.) The real wood, furniture-grade cabinets are in very good condition with only a few nicks and scratches that do not detract from their beautiful appearance (made more evident in the flash close-up photo). This is an original paired set with identical serial numbers. These were my introduction to the Monitor Audio Silver line and were the speakers that led me to purchase many later MA models. The British firm Monitor Audio is known for building loudspeakers based on exotic metal-alloy drivers, and for some years Monitor’s Silver S models have been quite successful in the marketplace. At CES 2005 the company announced a new Silver RS-series intended to take “the performance of the award-winning Silver S range to the next level.” The flagship of the new line is the Silver RS8—a two and a half-way, bassreflex, tower-type speaker. I found myself mesmerized by the review samples’ gorgeous “Rosenut” enclosures, and by their driver array: a 1? gold-dome C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminum Magnesium alloy) tweeter, a 6? C-CAM mid/bass driver, and two 6? C-CAM woofers. The drivers are mounted in non-metallic cast-polymer frames whose matte silver matches the appearance of the speaker diaphragms.
