Just out of a hi-fi estate comes a nicely surviving classic REK-O-KUT Micropoise Stereotone Arm. This was one of REK-O-KUTs last and most advanced designs, crafted not long before the company was either purchased by a larger conglomerate or went out of business. REK-O-KUT, a smaller, high-quality USA company based in New York, USA, started in the early 1930s, producing record-cutting equipment, and later expanded into the broadcast industry. When the frenetic hi-fi days of the 1940s and 1950s took off, they dove into home high-fidelity equipment, producing some truly exceptional turntables and tone arms. This mid-century 12-inch Micropoise arm tapped into the very plump and eager bank accounts of the roaring 1960s audiophile..... It was state-of-the-art and made from expensive materials, priced at about $30 circa 1961—equivalent to approximately $308 in todays money! By the early 1960s, REK-O-KUT faced fierce competition as countless manufacturers from the USA and Europe introduced high-end designs. The Micropoise was one of their final stereo tone arms from this era, specifically designed for high-fidelity and stereo reproduction. This listing is for the tone arm only, with no cartridge installed. The Micropoise arm is a well-balanced piece of engineering, constructed from hefty materials including cast aluminum and what appears to be stainless steel. It features some of the most advanced designs of the time, including a multi-axis, low-friction horizontal bearing, reportedly silicone-damped, a gimbal, and an acoustically isolated counterweight. These features give the arm a luxurious feel, and it’s well-known for delivering excellent sound quality. The simplicity of the design also makes it relatively easy to service, although this particular unit appears to be all original, as removed from a Rondine table of the early 60s. It’s pretty clean, with only a few minor blemishes that should polish out easily. Please note that nothing has been tested, and it will likely need some cleaning and adjustments before being put into play. This tone arm is being sold as found, as-is, and all original.
