For sale is my used, very good condition, Meridian 557 250 watt per channel stereo power amp. I used this for years in my main system and loved it. In my opinion, the rich, natural tone of this amp is better than the G series. I have recently upgraded to a pair of 857s, so Im selling this one. It works perfectly, but there are a few normal scratches from age/use. Included is the original manual, and a pair of shorting plugs for the single ended outputs. (The manual says to use these when using balanced cables.) Since I didnt get them with the amp, I made my own. I dont have the original power cord, and I forgot to put one in the box, but I can supply one if requested. It will ship double boxed. Thanks for looking!

For sale is this great Meridian 557 2 Channel Power Amplifier.Please ensure you read the listing in full before purchase! I would class this amp as being in a good, used condition with a few marks, scuffs and scratches from wear and use. The only things to note is that one corner of the glass top is damaged, close up picture included, and one of the speaker cable connector posts is a little gnarled. Please check out all the pictures, which I have taken from all angles which flash on and off, as these make up a large part of the description and show the condition well.Fantastic sounding power amp with tons of power, which is fully working. PLEASE NOTE - there is a hum from the amplifier (from the actual amplifier, not any connected speakers) which can be heard from around 50 cm and closer. I couldnt hear it from further away, but this could be affected by placement etc. Had a Google and this could be down to a few things such as DC Offset, transformer vibrating etc or something may need tightening. It really shouldnt interfere with enjoyment or use at all as it is (Unless you are fussy, if so, stay away!), as when music is playing its not audible, but wanted to make any potential buyers aware that there is a hum that can be heard close up. Meridian Say…. Meridian have maintained a strong reputation for their power amplifier technology for over 15 years. Until now, their power amp developments have concentrated on high-transparency low-power models or on the custom amplifiers in their renowned active and digital speaker designs. The 557 takes the Meridian 500 Series into new territory – with 200W of clean clear power – for the first time allowing the option of a complete Meridian front end for large passive speakers. The Meridian 557 can be used with the 502 or 501 preamps, or with a Meridian DSP Surround Processor. The Meridian 557 houses two powerful amplifiers in a dual mono construction. The amplifiers are both rated at 200W into 8 ohms. Each over-specified output stage uses 8 high-power transistors. These, combined with a massive low noise 1.6kVA toroidal transformer, permit this amplifier to deliver currents in excess of 30A, ensuring no loss of performance even into loads that dip below 2 ohms. The massive power delivery of this amplifier makes it ideal for driving difficult loudspeaker loads. 557 can be operated in bridged mode giving power in excess of 680W into 8 ohms, 1000W into 4 ohms. The 557 provides balanced and unbalanced inputs as well as twin outputs for bi-wiring. The topology of 557 is very much in the Meridian tradition. A high-precision fast DC-precise input stage is combined with a fully complementary amplification and output stage. Also, the 557 uses Meridian’s well established self-adjusting bias and error-correction output topology. The 557 is fully protected against DC and thermal overload. A proprietary Meridian soft-start circuit is also fitted. Meridian 557 Power Amplifier. 29kg in weight. 200w into 8 ohms. My own power amplifier of many years. Still a highly regarded amplifier today, check out the many positive online reviews. Cosmetically, the glue on the edge of the top glass has lifted around the edge in places (but has not changed in years now!). Up very close, there are some light speckled white dots on the fascia, but not generally visible as the pics show. Works fine, Ive used as both an independant power amp, or with another 557 in bridged mono mode. Only reason Im selling this one is because I have downsized my own setup a little and one of these is enough! Drives anything! Connectivity via either RCA or balanced XLR. Has RCA blanking plugs if youre using XLR too. So, comes with RCA blanking plugs, printed manual and power cable. I may deliver if youre close to Bristol, or possibly elsewhere dependant on my whereabouts generally. Postage charges are for a fully insured service (Ive listed postage costs separately, I normally include free postage but given the weight and value of this I have done so).
