Description
Readers Digest Version for those who dont like reading long ads: Apparently the turn-on relay shown in pic #7 is gonzo or the panel switch that energizes it is bad - most likely the former as I cant see McIntosh using a switch that would fail after maybe a few thousand on/off clicks. Its a liquidation deal priced to move at about $1,000 below what these are generally trading at. If youre not a bargain hunter you probably stopped reading at ...turn-on relay is gonzo... but if you like saving a crap-ton of money on high-end stuff read on, or better yet, hit that Contact Seller icon. Note on price: Working pairs of these are going for anywhere from $7,500 to over $10 Grand - which admittedly may on the high side - but Im still considerably below the average per-unit price level. For you resellers and dealers, Im leaving you some money on the table. Single units show up here and there so if you want to put together a multi-channel system you can still save some money buying this one. If you already have a pair, well, now youll have a spare for your system. If youre serious about acquiring this, use the Contact Seller or Make Offer icon liberally; Im all ears. If you want a better deal do a quick minutes internet homework to find it on my areas seller-friendly, fee-free site and well talk then. Note on Condition: This was a traded-in or demo unit that was part of the inventory of a home theatre business I bought out. Maybe it was used to drive someones ground-shaking subwoofer as its a single channel amp and I only have this one. As stated above it doesnt light up when plugged in and turned to the manual On position. Most likely its the relay shown in Pic #7 or the switch to the left of it - voltage is not reaching the power transformer so nothings getting power. My associate had a tech guy jump the relay and the unit turned on. If I get a new relay installed, the price goes up. I have talked to McIntosh and the relay is only $20 with $10 shipping so if youre good at circuit board repairs that could well be your total repair cost. Given that I know that juice isnt even getting to the power transformer, Im pretty confident that its the only fault in the amp. These 92 lb beasts are built like tanks with all kinds of protection features and given their power output capability I doubt this thing ever broke a sweat. Note on Cosmetics: Cosmetic condition of this quite handsome piece of high-end audio gear is certainly several notches above acceptable. There are a couple of micro-nicks in the brushed aluminum side trim which you wont notice except on close inspection. Other ads Ive seen on several venues also disclose such tiny imperfections. Im not an appraiser so I wont offer you a grading on a 10pt scale but you shouldnt have to make any excuses for this in your high-end sound room or on your equipment rack, either alone or as part of a stereo pair. If youre a perfectionist you could replace the trim or maybe have it refinished. Tech Notes; ie. hardly any: Anyone interested in this will perform his own Due Diligence. Theres nothing I can say about the model that wont be stated more accurately and completely by either McIntoshs own sales literature or reviews in audio enthusiasts publications. It is what it is and Ive given you the Straight Dope above; check my FB. Getting the deal done: Im just looking to liquidate it hence the low price relative to what these trade for. Fix it and youre ahead by at least a grand - more if I take your offer for less. Sold as local pickup only as shipping this heavy unit entails cost and that means additional eBay fees and it would take some rigid crating to safeguard it. If you live outside the area I will take it to the local FedEx joint and youll have to call in with your CC and packing and shipping costs and all risk will be on you. Thanks for looking.
