Today we have my old faithful McIntosh Mc 7270 Solid State Hifi Power Amplifier. This unit was purchased 4 years ago & it had the front glass broken out during shipment but I used it as is with no problems. Recently I turned it on as usual & it started smoking from one of the large grey capacitors on the back…The meters were operating properly & were lit up as well…of course I immediately turned it off & here we are. I have no knowledge of how to repair this unit & no service shop in town to fix it, so I am going to sell it as is for parts or repair! Note…this unit doesn’t have its feet either. This amp has spent its life powering a pair of Klipschorn KB-WO’s(other auction), and still performs. Heard random crackles when rolling the gain controls initially(unused for years), but that seems to have gone away after some sweeps. From a smoking home, perhaps that’s some of what is behind the glass, see pictures of power meters. The case is gouged and scratched, and one lock socket is missing(see picture). Do you see the deformed dividers on the terminal blocks, well used screws? There are off white paint speckles here and there, I’ll let you clean them off, they’re very small. The light backlighting the meters is not even across the meter, normal? I’ve been riding this hard for the past week powering the K’s, strong! I will ship with FedEx, the handling charge will be for the insurance/signature, supplies, though I am using the original box for both case and amp together. Happy eBaying!
