McIntosh C27 Stereo Preamplifier. Outstanding Condition! Came across this at a consignment shop in 2007. Ive been a vintage audio fan and hobbyist for about 20 years so this caught my eye at the time. After awhile I realized I had a hoarding problem. I bought a wooden case for it, and a case for a Mac amp I had. Those 2 pieces have been sitting on a shelf in their cases, in 2 different houses in 2 different states for 17 years. Wooden case is not included in this sale. This preamp is in fantastic shape. After looking at Berners Mcintosh Compendium Site, the serial number of BV3796 would indicate a manufacturing date probably in 1983, the last year these were produced. Forty years ago! I opened the top and bottom panels to blow out any dust. Other than dust, doesnt look like its ever been opened. Every wire is just where it was when it left the factory. See pictures. Roger Russell was a well known, respected engineer with Mcintosh. The C26 and its successor, the C27, were both designed by Roger. Connected it to a Kenwood tuner and cassette deck, Technics turntable, and an MC502 amp for testing. I only noticed a couple small issues which just needed some Deoxit cleaner on 2 switches. I cleaned no other controls. Since everything was working, I saw no reason to spray cleaner where the interior was in such nice shape. The unit was run for about 2 hours at medium volume. It ran without problems. Both Phono sets were tested. One set of phono plugs still has the factory shorting plugs in it. Those are frequently missing from C27s. Also, if you look at pictures on the internet of C27s, there is frequently a worn area under the red power switch, and the silver/chrome trim under it is worn. This unit has no wear of anything.
