Description
7/7/24 NOTE I uploaded a 30+ second video clip of the turntable starting and moving to the record and playing, after 24 hours Ebay STILL says under review so hopefully potential buyers will be able to view it soon. A very nice vintage 1980-81 MARANTZ TT4000 direct drive quartz auto-return turntable. Very clean vintage piece in excellent working condition (see video). Has been tested on both 33 and 45rpm and works well, auto-return works on both sizes. On first use of 45rpm in a while, the Quartz lock took a few seconds to settle in, but this unit sat idle for a few months. I put it back in rotation prior to listing it here to test it. Chassis is very clean, no major scratches or bumps, a few rubbed spots in the silver/gold finish where dustcover bumpers meet the front corners. Dustcover is in great shape with no deep scratches, a few minor ones that still show after I gave it a quick hand-polish inside and out. No cracks. I would rate the dustcover as an 7-8 out of 10. With a light sanding and more polishing it would be near perfect. Three of the four original rubber feet were dry-rotted and split from age, so I have installed replacement feet that are more stable than the originals. Turntable comes with an Audio Technica LS400 cartridge (also known as an AT12) with a good stylus (unknown number of hours on stylus but it sounds fine to me) set to 1.25 grams which played excellently. Hinges work well, cords look good. Platter mat still pliable, has the beautiful Marantz ring in center. I have packed and shipped more than 20 turntables in the past with no issues. It will be safely packed, with platter and mat removed, counterweight removed, and dustcover and hinges removed and packed separately, possibly headshell removed. Yes this results in a larger box to ship, but shipping turntables assembled in a too small of a box guarantees damage by delivery service. Turntable will need to be set up and calibrated once it arrives using the included printout of the user manual. Local pickup in Nashville, TN ok as well. Due to age of most vintage electronics, and the fact that some of these components are 40+ years old and may need replacement or service in the future, no warranty is given or provided. Unit is sold as-is, as-pictured, as-shown in the video (see video). No returns or refunds given. No returns or refunds given because of unscrupulous buyers who steal parts to fix their own broken electronics then return sellers units as not working.
