Marantz 4400 Stereo and Quadradial Receiver, US specification (120Vac) - please read FULL description before bidding. Late 1970s vintage ‘silver face’ receiver (integrated amplifier/tuner). 125W per channel stereo power. Inputs: Phono, Aux/CD (line level), FM, AM, Tape 1, Tape 2. Auction includes: - Marantz 4400 receiver - 120v/240Vac step down transformer - good quality copy of the Owner’s Manual - service receipt - original manufacturer’s schematic diagrams - original warranty details. I have owned this receiver since about 2004. It was bought from the original owner (since new) in the San Francisco Bay Area, so it’s 110V/120Vac mains power - NOT 240Vac. It is necessary to use a 240Vac to 110V/120Vac step-down transformer to make it function in the UK. I will include my transformer in the sale. It’s 17cm x 10cm x 9cm. It delivers 1/2kW and has always been sufficient for my needs. The receiver has never been used at really high volume levels however. The Marantz has been very well looked after by both owners. While I lived in California, I had the receiver fully serviced and recapped in 2011. The company used (‘IrebuildMarantz’) offered the best vintage Marantz service in the US at the time. They had a waiting list of more than a year. Please see the receipt for the list of work done. It included replacing every capacitor in the unit, resoldering every joint with silver solder, full alignment, bias setting, replacement of dial diffuser paper and fitting LED bulbs. I have always used the receiver in stereo mode and never in quadradial - so I can not vouch for or guarantee quad performance. I have been using the ‘Front’ stereo channels. I haven’t listened to the ‘Rear’ stereo channels since it was serviced. Recently I have been listening to a lot of music through the Aux input (using a Sonos box) and the Phono input (Rega Planar 3). Initially, after powering up there is a little low-level background noise, but this disappears after a while. The only other ‘issue’ I can think of is the Stereo indicator (lamp) doesn’t work consistently. This could just be something really minor like a contact on the bulb. I have made no modifications to the receiver. The only work done has been by an expert technician. The oscilloscope display works. The sound is what you would expect from a high-end powerful Marantz vintage receiver. The phono stage is particularly good. The front panel is in excellent condition because the original owner kept the plastic film over it for the first 25-30 years of ownership. The wooden original Marantz cover is in very good condition but has some signs of age here and there. Some scrapes on each (L/R) side, but they’re minor. The top side is very clean. The grill fits quite loosely into the wooden cover but I think this must be normal. See photos with grill removed for condition of the grill slot. The label on the left hand side was on the case since new. The words on the label are not clear now but you can just make out ‘Genuine’ and then I think it said the name of the wood which was either Walnut or Teak. This receiver is VERY heavy (24kg, 53 lbs). I can only just lift it, and not for long distances! I strongly prefer pickup from my home in Winchester (on the M3 and A34). If you live somewhere directly between Winchester and York (A34, A43, M1, A64) there’s a chance I MAY be able to deliver it, but it MUST be with my prior agreement before you bid. I may ask for a contribution to the petrol. Please assume that unless we have specifically agreed delivery, then you will need to collect it from Winchester. I will not send it by post or courier, even if you arrange it, so please don’t ask. I am happy to demonstrate the receiver for you, by arrangement. Any questions - please just ask.
