Description
Relisting as the winner wasnt UK based. Also ebay wanted to charge me full listing fees for a second chance offer. Apologies to those previously bidding. Mantra M1 (Manticore) - Record player - Turntable - Working Order. No arm or cartridge. Pictured items were for testing and to show the item working. Fitted with a Rega armboard and attached spacer. This turntable is sadly a bit of a mess but surely someone could love it or use it for parts or the basis of a project? Surely worth a £20 start for the glass platter alone. Ill paint a bleak picture to lower expectations first.... The bad: No base or feet No hinges for the lid The plinth is a bit of a mess with lots of marks (could be tidied?) The lid is still intact but has two or more cracks and numerous scratches The mat seems quite new but looks like someone has had a nibble on it The good: This has a heavyweight glass platter, thicker and heavier than a Rega Heavyweight machined inner platter (no plastic here!) The plinth is really well built nice wood (but cosmetically bad) The motor appears to pull very well Brand new belt Despite appearances it works, and sounds surprisingly good. Unsure if it is rosewood or mahogany coloured plinth. You could make a base for it, three blobs of sorbothane, add an arm and cartridge and (as long as you werent looking at it) you would have a nice turntable. Not too sure of the difference between the Mantra and M1 but this is a well built three point suspended turntable that even in its current state to my ears sounds better than a Rega Planar 3 I have. Selling for spares or repairs even though it does work I cant suggest someone plugs it in: with no base and live AC voltage!! I believe these were £220 in 1988 (and the Mantra was £299, still unsure of the differences). So £571 today! Ive apparently got too many turntables, so am having to cull the collection. Postage (UK only) Happy for collection from Wirral. Ive selected the cheapest sub £100 insured postage. Ill dismantle as much as I can but in reality the insurance will really be to cover loss. I cant guarantee that the lid will not get further damaged in shipping (unless it is sent separately as any pressure may cause the cracks to spread) as Ive seen very few couriers successfully deliver a turntable and the lid remain intact. If you have an specific delivery requests/couriers please contact me before paying.
