Rogue Cronus Magnum III. Very powerful at 100W/channel in push-pull mode, 60W in Triode mode, switchable on the fly. User-switchable output taps, 4-ohm and 8-ohm. Built-in phono stage too! This was purchased at Brooks Burdan and built to-order in 2020, but used very sparingly.The tubes (KT120s) only have about 100 hours on them. Comes with original box, remote, manual, and aftermarket 10ga power cable. Local pick up preferred, as this amp is very heavy, but I will ship in the original carton (pictured). Magnum IA-170 integrated amplifier with Phono stage Late 1990s hand made British hi-end amp from a well respected cottage industry manufacturer that had been set up by Tony Relph, one of the original partners of Rega, the turntable and amplifier manufacturer that still exists today. This is therefore quite a rare amplifier and as you would expect from Magnum the build quality and choice of components is excellent. These models have stood the test of time well and were very much respected back in the day. For peace of mind a three month return to me warranty is included If you are looking at other listings for a IA-170 be SURE TO CHECK that a phono preamp is fitted as some versions of this amp did not come with one as standard. However this one does have a built phono preamp (the components on the board mounted top left of photo 2) so it is well suited to a vintage turntable without any need for an external phono preamp. This amplifier is in perfect working order. The front fascia and casing are in good condition with some marks and light scratches but nothing really bad or eye catching. The Volume decal on the front is slightly worn away. Please see photo number 3. The Volume and balance knobs are NOT ORIGINALS but very high quality metal replacements which function perfectly and do not look out of place. The function selector knob is original. Please study the photos carefully as they are considered to be part of the description. The volume, switches and controls work well. The amplifier has been checked over recently and given a clean bill of health by an audio service engineer who has been repairing / servicing audio equipment full time for the past 40 years. Built in the USA and like a TANK. Its Lizzo size!! Rogue Audio is awesome because founder and operator Mark OBrian supports his customers. They are know for building very strong, powerful and reliable products. Not to mention they will overhaul any of their previous models (for a modest fee) to the upgraded units. They just do things different which is why the company name is so fitting. Ive owned many of their products from the RP-5, Sphynx, Ares II Magnum, Cronus magnum 2 & 3 and the 99 Super Magnum Pre-amp. They have all been fantastic and built to very high standards. From a fit and finish perspective they are robust but not Luxman, McIntosh or Esoteric level. They remind me of 90s to 2008 Classe Audio. Its meant to get the job done but still be aesthetically pleasing. Stock tube sound is good. Upgraded tubes is much better. Stock sound is clean, not colored, very linear and accurate. It absolutely has solid state sound qualities to it. Similar to a Rega Elicit, or Yamaha A-S2100. With upgraded tubes it was more inline if you were to blend a Sugden A21 with an Audio Research I/50. There ends up being more spacious sound stage with out the sacrifice of sloppiness found in some over seas units. There is very little coloring the the music when swapping tubes. Out of the many tube amps ive owned this unit holds on tight to its core values. Each time a tube was swapped you get a very slight pinch of flavor. Other tube amps will change dramatically to a point where its easy to loose touch on where you started. Phono stage is excellent. Keep in mind its a MM only phono input. That is the one thing Rogue changed on the CM3. After owning both CM2 and CM3 i can say they are very similar and the CM3 didnt provide me any extra musical expression to warrant the extra money. I sold the CM3 and bought a dedicated phono stage and upgraded cartridge which both made huge impacts to the sound and kept the CM2. Even the plastic remote in my opinion is better. After owning the CM3 i found the aluminum remote to be a gimmick. Rogue made this change because users complained about the plastic feeling cheap. But the plastic unit is lighter and doesnt make noise when clicking the buttons. I am selling my Rogue Cronus Magnum III integrated amp. This amp is excellent condition and everything works as it should . This is the latest version of this highly acclaimed amp with the Ultra linear and Triode switch as well as ability to handle not just MM but also MC cartridges. . Comes with original box and packing, remote control, power cord and owners manual. The tubes are all stock types. and were replaced about 1 years ago . The Cronus Magnum has many glowing reviews online and is often compared to gear that runs far more. I have owned to many amps to count and there is a magic about tubes. The unit puts out 100 watts per channel with the KT 120 power tubes. The taps are set to 4 ohms but can be changed. Very good phono section and a headphone jack. Changing the center preamp tube can make a big difference and I can advise on that subject. User adjustable bias with tool and very easy to do.
