Tested and working on my R117.

Luxmans R-117 was released during the CD era. Thus it was engineered to perform with a much wider dynamic range. For some reason the engineers also decided to use a massive, triple-shielded, high-energy transformer with ultra fast recovery rectifier diodes and matched high-current, bipolar transistor pairs in its design. The result is a staggering 700 watts per channel of dynamic power into 2 Ohms! But with more reasonable 4 Ohm speakers itll still output an impressive 250 watts per channel. Not only does the R-117 handle digital sources, but it crosses over into LP and analog territory exceptionally well. It handles both MM and MC phono cartridges. Even the tuner with a 5-gang varactor, dual gate MOSFET FM front end and automatic hi-blend circuitry is a joy to listen to. Many who have owned an R-117 wish they could have it back. The amplifier section rivals many high performance received available today. Some consider the R-117 to be one of the best receivers ever built. This unit is in good operating condition and passed all of our bench tests. All of the lighting and controls are working properly. The original remote works like it was new. This would make a nice receiver for a 2 channel audio system. The only defect is the R CD input is broken. It could be fixed but there are plenty of other inputs a CD player can be connected to. Vintage Luxman R-117 Receiver/Amplifier w/Remote - Great Unit. No longer using for entertainment purposes. Previously paired with Klipsch speakers. Great sound. Luxman has been known as the modern equivalent to Macintosh.

Luxman R-117 Receiver is one of the legendary top of the line late 1980s- early 1990s top of the line stereo receivers right before AV became big. It is an exceptionally powerful beast (160 W and heavy) and does everything really well. Playing music is fantastic with this. I purchased this for myself used, and received it not working in October 2022. I had it professionally repaired and serviced in RI in May 2023 (will include handwritten paperwork if you’re interested). I’ve used it daily since, attached to a turntable, tape deck and a DAC + TV. It works perfectly, at least for all audio inputs (have not tested S-video or RCA video inputs, because I don’t use them). The double loudness settings are very cool - wish more receivers had something like this, as it’s a huge improvement at low volumes. The radio is also extra impressive - best 1980s tuner I’ve seen. It has cosmetic blemishes - some scratches and pits on front (see photos), scuff on the side, and some sort of glue splatter on the front (probably was in someone’s workshop before I owned it). One of the video connectors is sheared off (see pics). Besides this, does not impact functionality of this unit. No remote but has remote functionality. Can send buyer a pdf of the documentation if they want. Will ship with full insurance for the purchase price.
