This listing is for a used Linn Intek integrated amplifier. It has been my main preamplifier (and moving coil phono pre) for years. I purchased it used, and have used it as a preamplifier only (alongside my KEF speakers that, being powered, dont need a power amp). All of the preamps front panel controls and switches work well. There are preamp OUT jacks on the backside, making it easy to connect to a power amp or powered speakers. When I bought this Linn Intek, the power amplifier sections electrolytic caps had been removed, and the 60VAC c.t. (center tap) winding had been disconnected from the PCB (via removal of a 3-pin connector--see photos). Just this week I decided to test the transformer and replace the missing electrolytic caps. All of this can be seen in the photos. I am NOT in the business of repair, but I had some good-quality Nichicon 1000 uF, 50VDC capacitors on hand. I used four of these, but ideally youd want two 10,000 uF or so filter caps. I was simply doing a test. The power rectifiers and output transistors checked ok (i.e., no shorts), so I slowly brought up the voltage using a VARIAC. As shown in the photos, the requisite +/- 40VDC power amp section voltage is present. Additional jumpers or modifications are needed to link the preamp to the power amp: The Linn manual (I dont have this) used to provide instructions for connecting internal jumpers and such. For now, I have simply left this Linn Intek as a preamp only. Because the power amp section is essentially untested, this is being sold AS-IS. As a preamp, its really fantastic. In addition to flexible switching (e.g. record from an FM source while listening to CDs or records), this Linn Intek has been my favorite moving coil (MC) phono preamp, too. As a moving coil preamp goes, its super quiet. Additionally, I tested the RIAA EQ for MC and MM phono using Audio Precision test gear (which has a built-in RIAA phono test). No problems at all--the Linn Intek was spot on. Physically, this integrated amplifier is in great shape. There are two sheetmetal screws missing on the underside (should be easy to replace--I just dont have the correct size). You can see its overall condition--chassis, PCB, transformer, and all. To be crystal clear: Im mainly selling this as a PREAMPLIFIER because I know this much works flawlessly. If you like to do repair work, or have a technically adept friend, the power amp section should be easy to fix (assuming it isnt working). All of the parts are intact, the power transformer definitely good, and none of the parts are esoteric or hard to find (Linn used discrete components). Note this items weighs 17.5 lbs unpacked.
