Krell CAST Interconnect Cables - 2nd gen (pair) - 5 meter length (used). More cable remnants from the large Krell, Thiel system that we took back a couple of months ago from some older customers who are in the process of downsizing. One owner. Good condition operationally. B condition cosmetically. Customer had these cables placed close to their base board heating elements. As such, there are a couple of minor damaged areas to the cable jackets on both the left (white) and right (red) cables. The larger of these damaged areas on the right (red) cable has a piece of heat shrink applied (see pics below). Operationally these cables are solid. Because of the cosmetic damage I have reduced the selling price. FYI: back in April of 2023 I sold a 2 meter pair of these cables for $245.00. Krell introduced the CAST (Current Audio Signal Transmission) format in 1999. The theory being that by converting the audio signal from voltage to current the audio signal is better protected (E: less impacted) sonically by the type of cable/wire being used (*). CAST is a balanced audio signal. As such, CAST cables can be run in extreme long lengths without negatively impacting the audio signal. CAST cable ends are terminated with Swiss Lemo locking type connectors. *The belief was that the quality of the cable/wire being used would not matter (**) once the audio signal is converted from voltage into current. As such, the first 2 generations of CAST cables use a generic 4 conductor copper wire. The first gen CAST cables had no labeling on the wire jacket whereas the second generation did have CAST labeling on the wire jacket (see pic below). **During the middle/end of the 2000s Nordost would prove this theory incorrect by loaning Krell Nordost made CAST cables for evaluation that were vastly superior sonically over the gen 1 and gen 2 CAST cables. Since that time Nordost has been manufacturing 3rd gen CAST cables for Krell. FYI: All versions of Krell CAST cables use Swiss Lemo locking type connectors.
