From my private collection:This is one of the best-sounding cartridges I have kept for years. Koetsu Rosewood Signature MC Moving Coil Stereo Phono Cartridge. This cartridge has been upgraded by my Japanese friend, he is a retired Koetzu engineer with FG-S Line Contact Stylus on Boron Cantilever and Suspension Tune Up, just did an audition and the sound is great, better than its original so much, and has only been audition for less then 3 hours. I did some further research about this cartridge. Turned out that it uses Alnico magnet, rather than neodymium and platinum magnet in later version. This long-body signature is rare and harder to buy than new Koetsu. I and some users who have both of the new and old Koetsu said that the old Alnico version of this long-body even has better sound than the modern Platinum version.https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/koestu-original-onyx-sig-pre-platinum-cart- vs-later-current-platinum-s . People said the older the Koetsu is, the warmer and deeper it sounds because the wooden shell will sound better with ages (similar to acoustic guitars – older sound better). Offering a Koetsu Rosewood Signature cartridge. This particular cartridge was sent to Van Den Hul for repair, as per William Van Den Huls recent communication with me. This is one of the most prestigious and sought after cartridges available! New, this gem sells for $5,495.00. I tested the cartridge recently, and it produced sound, and tracked properly. It is a Moving Coil cartridge that will require step up transformer, or Pre Amp to produce the sound its capable of!NOTE: I removed this cartridge from a VPI HW19 which was owned by a well known hifi and recording gear reviewer. This turntable was in his living room, and was his main turntable. It had 2 arms. One being a Rabco tangential other being a Technics 9 arm. The latter had this Koetsu Rosewood Signature. I wasnt able to authenticate the number of hours it was used. I did test and it produced a crisp sound and tracked properly. I have it priced low enough so that a buyer can have it re-tipped at some point. VPI Industries in New Jersey does excellent work. They charge $400 for a re-tip.
