We connected our external hard drive through the USB. It powered up the hard drive immediately started showing a slide show of our photos. We connected our android phone with the wireless option and watched a few personal videos. We also connected to our Roku and enjoyed several Apps. It does not need a external streaming box because it is a smart wi-fi projector, that comes with a remote (new batteries included). Plenty of apps are preloaded, plus you can add more. We found it easiest to set up using a mouse (not included). Photos were taken in a room with windows and we recommend viewing in a darkened room.
