The Klipsch RF-5 is a high-performance floor-standing speaker that belongs to the company’s Reference Series. Known for its clear and dynamic sound reproduction, the RF-5 is designed for both home theater and stereo listening applications. Below are the details and specifications of the Klipsch RF-5: General Overview: The Klipsch RF-5 is a two-way floor-standing speaker designed to deliver high-quality audio with minimal distortion, emphasizing clarity, dynamics, and wide frequency response. It’s a step up from the more budget-friendly models in the Klipsch Reference Series, offering a more refined sound signature while still retaining the classic Klipsch horn-loaded tweeter design. Key Features: 1.Horn-Loaded Tweeter: •The RF-5 uses Klipsch’s signature Tractrix® Horn technology for the tweeter, which helps to improve efficiency and control sound dispersion. The horn-loaded design provides high sensitivity and minimizes distortion, leading to clear and bright highs. 2.Titanium Diaphragm Compression Driver: •A 1-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver tweeter delivers crisp, detailed high frequencies. Titanium is chosen for its rigidity and lightweight properties, which helps in reducing distortion. 3.Dual 8-inch Woofers: •The RF-5 features two 8-inch Cerametallic™ cone woofers. Cerametallic is a Klipsch proprietary material, combining the strength of ceramic with the lightweight properties of aluminum, allowing the woofers to be rigid while minimizing breakup and distortion, resulting in tight, controlled bass response. 4.High Sensitivity: •The RF-5 is highly efficient, with a sensitivity of 99dB, meaning it can produce high sound pressure levels with minimal power, making it ideal for use with lower-powered amplifiers as well as high-powered ones. 5.Bi-Wirable/ Bi-Ampable: •The speaker has dual binding posts, allowing for bi-wiring or bi-amping. This means you can run separate amplifiers or cables to the high-frequency and low-frequency drivers for potentially improved sound performance. 6.Cabinet Design: •The RF-5 is housed in a solid MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) cabinet with internal bracing to reduce unwanted resonances. The speaker has a bass reflex design with a rear-firing port, which helps to enhance bass extension. 7.Magnetically Shielded: •The RF-5 is magnetically shielded, allowing you to place it near older CRT TVs or other magnetic-sensitive electronics without interference. Specifications: •Frequency Response: 34 Hz – 20 kHz ±3 dB •This wide frequency range allows the RF-5 to reproduce both deep bass and high-frequency details. •Sensitivity: 99 dB @ 1 watt / 1 meter •The RF-5 is highly efficient, meaning it can achieve loud volume levels with minimal power input. •Power Handling: •150 watts continuous (600 watts peak) •The RF-5 can handle a substantial amount of power, making it suitable for both high and low-powered amplifiers. •Nominal Impedance: 8 ohms •The 8-ohm impedance makes the RF-5 compatible with a wide range of amplifiers and receivers. •Crossover Frequency: 2500 Hz •The speaker has an internal crossover that directs frequencies above 2500 Hz to the tweeter and those below to the woofers. •Drivers: •Tweeter: 1-inch (2.54 cm) titanium diaphragm compression driver with 90° x 60° Tractrix® Horn. •Woofers: Dual 8-inch (20.32 cm) Cerametallic™ cone woofers. •Enclosure Type: Bass reflex via rear-firing port. •The rear port enhances low-frequency performance, allowing for deeper bass extension. •Dimensions: •Height: 42.5 inches (108 cm) •Width: 9.25 inches (23.5 cm) •Depth: 14.25 inches (36.2 cm) •Weight: 60 lbs (27.2 kg) each •The speakers are relatively heavy due to their solid construction, ensuring stability and reduced cabinet vibrations. •Finish: •The RF-5 is typically available in a black ash or cherry wood veneer finish, providing a classy and modern aesthetic that fits in most home decors. Performance: •Bass Response: With dual 8-inch woofers and a bass reflex cabinet design, the RF-5 offers deep and tight bass, making it suitable for music genres like rock, electronic, and classical as well as for dynamic movie soundtracks. •Midrange and Treble: The titanium tweeter combined with the Tractrix horn design ensures the RF-5 produces clear, detailed mids and highs, with an expansive soundstage. •Imaging and Soundstage: The wide-dispersion horn design creates a broad soundstage, making the RF-5 ideal for larger listening rooms. Its precision also helps with stereo imaging, positioning instruments and vocals accurately in space. Recommended Room Size: The RF-5 is best suited for medium to large rooms where it can be positioned a few feet away from walls for optimal bass performance. The rear-firing port means you’ll need to experiment with placement for the best sound balance, especially regarding bass response. Summary: The Klipsch RF-5 is a powerful, dynamic speaker ideal for both home theater setups and stereo music listening. Its high sensitivity, tight bass, and clear highs make it a great choice for those who want high-impact sound without needing a massive amplifier. With its horn-loaded tweeter and dual 8-inch woofers, it delivers an engaging and detailed sound experience, especially for users who value clarity and dynamics at both high and low volumes. The RF-5 offers a significant step up in performance from entry-level models and remains a solid choice for audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts.
