Description
A pair of Kerr McCosh valve power amplifiers Probably the CWA 40 model but we cannot be certain as the exact model number is not stated on the amplifiers. The serial numbers are 5089 and 5090 and these are for restoration and repair. They are from the late 60s or early 70s. These have been connected to the mains and they do NOT turn on. These are for restoration by a qualified repair expert in valve amplifiers and are NOT suitable for repair by an amateur home repairer as the voltages in these is very high and can be dangerous unless you are fully qualified person. These have 2x EL 34 valves and a 6BR8 valve in each amplifier. There is also a small type signal valve in each but we cannot identify it as the paint has worn off each valve. If you study the photos of the bottom you will see that they have been serviced at some point in the past with good quality and correct components by someone who knew what they were doing as the work is very neat. They also contain some original capacitors which are showing their age and should be replaced by now. There are no bottom plates on these as that is how they were sold at the time. Please study the photos of the interior of both amplifiers carefully as they will give you a good idea of the amount and type of modifications to each amplifier. The solder joints at the brown multi pin connector which would normally be connected to the pre amplifier have been de-soldered for some reason but these can be re soldered as the wires have not been cut back just neatly de soldered. RCA connectors have been installed to the side of each amplifier. We do not know why the previous owner did this so do not ask. Modern speaker connectors suitable for bare wire or banana type plugs have also been installed. They come with a pair of mains cables with the correct old three pin plugs to attach to the amplifier in good condition. Cosmetically in very fine condition with no dents or scratches just tiny signs of use. The paint is probably not original but we cannot say for sure as the re finish is very neat with no over spray and what seems the correct type of paint used. These are now VERY rare and seldom come up for sale in this very fine condition. There is plenty of information about these online. Consider all the information provided in this description fully and carefully to see if these meet your needs in this condition for restoration as you will have to account for the cost of service and restoration also in the future. Will be well packed with the valves removed and clearly labelled as to which socket they belong on each amplifier. Also, these will be in two boxes, one for each amplifier. Remember the weight as these will be expensive to post. Dimensions are 18.5cm H, 23cm W and 43cm D. They weigh 19Kg each.
