Description
I was the original buyer of this Kenwood VR-4900 receiver, a special Fathers Day gift I gave to my late father, who I now deeply miss. I bought this for him sometime at the beginning of the millennium to show my love and appreciation. As an audiophile like me, he was thrilled to receive such a sophisticated piece of audio equipment. I also wanted him to finally retire his old Kenwood KR-100, a receiver he purchased after returning from the Vietnam War. While this listing is for the VR-4900, the KR-100 may also be up for auction someday, once I manage to set my sentimental emotions aside. When my father passed, I made sure to grab this Kenwood VR-4900 receiver before the family of vultures started picking over his belongings. This receiver truly meant a lot to my father, and it would mean the world to me if it could find a new home where someone would greatly appreciate this last gen Kenwood VR-4900 receiver for its incredible build and sound quality, just as he did. Why This Kenwood VR-4900 Stands OutThis is not just any Kenwood receiver—its one of the last high-end models Kenwood produced before exiting the North American market. The Kenwood VR-4900 is an audiophile-grade receiver, capable of going head-to-head with elite models from Onkyo Integra, Sony ES, and other top-tier brands. They just dont make em like this anymore.Features & Specifications:Built-In HDCD Decoder: Enjoy high-definition sound with support for HDCD audio discs.32-bit D.R.I.V.E III High-Resolution 6-Channel DAC: This advanced DAC offers superior audio quality, compatible with most sound cards via optical/SPDIF input. RF Band 3 is currently set; RF Band 1 will not work due to interference from 5G WiFi routers.RDS Communication: The RDS data not only displays on the receiver but also communicates with the remote control, showing RDS data directly on the remote once youre in the Tuner menu.Motorized Drop-Down Door: The front panel features a motorized drop-down door, controllable via the remote or a push button on the front.RDS Radio Capabilities: Display radio data directly on the receiver and the remote.Exceptional Sound Quality with Protection: While the receiver boasts an impressively low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of just 0.03%, it also includes a clipping detector to protect your speakers and maintain sound integrity during high-volume playback.Quality Phono Input: Satisfy your quest for listening to vinyl, especially after the recent resurgence. The unit is in excellent condition with barely noticeable marks that require close inspection to spot. The side panels have minor scuffs from being placed in an audio cabinet, but overall, it looks practically brand new. The only minor defect is with the Speaker A terminals—two of the bottom black speaker posts have some plastic base damage, likely due to my father using thicker speaker wire than the posts were designed to handle. However, they still securely hold speaker wires and function perfectly. See pictures for more details.Remote: Grade B. The remote shows some noticeable wear and tear from my late fathers use, particularly as he aged. There was minor battery corrosion that has been meticulously cleaned. The remote still provides full voltage and functions perfectly. The included stylus is in great condition, and the backlight is reminiscent of the classic Timex Indiglo watches.Specifications:Power Output: 130 watts per channel into 6 ohms (stereo mode)Frequency Response: 7Hz to 90kHzTotal Harmonic Distortion: 0.03%Signal to Noise Ratio: 74dB (MM), 97dB (line)Input Sensitivity: 2.5mV (MM), 200mV (line)Speaker Load Impedance: 6 to 16 ohmsVideo Connections: Composite, S-VideoDigital Inputs: 7 optical inputs, coaxial inputsTerms:Due to the nature of electronics, this receiver is being sold as-is. However, I guarantee it is not DOA (Dead on Arrival). The auction includes the Kenwood VR-4900 Receiver, PowerTouch remote, Setup Guide, and User Guide. I am also including the RF antenna, which may look simple—resembling a wire with ends similar to headphone jacks—but its crucial for ensuring optimal RF reception for the PowerTouch remote.Shipping Information:Please note that the shipping cost may seem on the high side due to the extreme weight of the receiver. The cost also covers the use of proper packaging materials, including going the extra mile for getting a extra heavy-duty international grade shipping box and ample padding to protect the receiver from potential damage during transit, whether from drops, mishandling, or other shipping hazards. As a fellow buyer, Countless times I’ve experienced the frustration of receiving poorly packaged items that arrive damaged due to careless shipping practices. I want to assure you that I’m committed to doing things differently. Unlike other sellers who may cut corners, I will never use old, recycled boxes, flimsy peanuts, deteriorated foam pads, newspapers, or inadequate postal supplies like used shipping boxes or bubble envelopes. I take great pride in ensuring that your Kenwood VR-4900 receiver is packaged with the utmost care, using only high-quality, brand-new materials. My goal is for this receiver to arrive at your home in the exact same condition as it leaves mine, so you can feel confident in your purchase.
