Thats when KEF manufactured (in England) this matched pair of Reference Speakers, Model 101, Type SP1122. They appear the same now, as they did in 1981 (please review the pictures for the cosmetic condition of the speakers, and contact me if there any questions). These speakers have been incredibly well cared for. The components in these speakers (B110 & T27) are all original as built by the factory (see picture gallery). The Amazing Model 101 Reference Speakers can be summed up and characterized as having: Breathtaking stereophonic realism, superb tonal quality, plus a standard of technical accuracy never before achieved in a loudspeaker of such small size. I used two of the KEF recommended recordings for the listening test; Holst: The Planets EMI ASD 3649 & Wagner: Siegfried Idyll EMI ASD 3943 digital. They sound great. The KEF Reference 101 speakers with the B110 and T27 drivers are related to world-famous vintage BBC-designed LS3/5A currently selling ($2000+) broadcast monitors (search KEF 101s vs LS3/5A). Many enthusiasts feel the KEF 101 is in many ways superior to the LS3/5A. KEF Speaker History: Since 1973, THE REFERENCE has continually set the benchmark for loudspeakers.... Note: (View the Photo Gallery). These speakers have easy access to the control board. Remove the small pad on the bottom center of the speaker cabinet. This gives you access to a long screw. Remove the screw and carefully remove the bottom wood plate to expose the control board. (Careful: the control board is connected by a ribbon connector to the speaker cabinet). A red warning light on the front of the cabinet comes on whenever the system is overloaded, and S-STOP is in operation. S-STOP continues to monitor the amplifier output during overload and automatically restores the full input signal to the loudspeaker when it is safe to do so. Nice set of lightly used KEF Reference Series 101 speakers. Nice overall cosmetic condition. The black terminal on one of the speakers needs attention/replacement (see last pic). Despite this defect, the speaker still works but the connection isn’t as secure as it would normally be. Many owners of these opt to install higher end binding posts anyway. Both cabinets exhibit some minor blems here and there . Cosmetic condition is highly subjective so please carefully review all the pics before bidding.
