Problem with take up reel spindles (cracked shafts) . Does not fast forward. You may want to do further refurbishing beyond these two issues, but these are the most obvious problems. 1978-ish JVC KD 3030 - made in Japan High end stereo tape deck, may be studio quality, or at least close to it. This one has rack ears, it also has feet. Needs TLC. The spindles have a problem with the parts not returning to their intended position. The reels are meant to slide around, but a crack in the shafts is preventing this action. See video. Fast forward is not working. It also probably needs a belt- just saying this due to the age of the unit. I think this is unrelated to the FF problem- it seems that this unit uses a separate motor for fast forward. I cleaned the contacts on most of the controls using deoxit D5- I was unable to reach the 400 hz calibration and rec EQ potentiometers, so they are unclean. Unclean! I also demagnetized the tape heads. Lights and VU meters are all working. The face is in excellent condition. There are three major blemishes on top - Im not sure if they are scratches in the paint or if its just something that rubbed off onto it and is kinda fused to it. These three lines are about an inch long. There are many faint scratches on top, but those are less noticeable. Unit was tested to play and record music. I found that playback of a commercial tape was excellent, but recording quality was just acceptable. Unit was not tested for wow and flutter. See the unit in action in the video. Side note, all of the peak lights do work, its just that classical music tends to start on the quiet side, and Im assuming that the video is more likely to be approved if I use public domain compositions. I have not tested the mic inputs or headphone input that are on the front of the unit. I dont even know what to do with the 400hz calibration, but it did produce a tone when I moved the toggle over to test signal while recording. Sale includes JVC KD 3030 stereo cassette deck only. Sale does not include original packaging, paperwork, the CD player used for testing, the blank tape used in testing, the VHS tape that I used to prop it up to get better lighting (That puppy is all mine, try not to be jealous!), or anything else that is not the cassette deck itself.
