The JVC JA-S44 is a clean under rated 45 WPC integrated amp. It is among the last of the real solid state units before they went to IC output chips… which sound like junk & have zero dynamic headroom. This unit has had a complete refresh including replacing ALL of the electrolytic caps. The power wire has been upgraded to 17AWG solid core cryo treated AntiCable wire. The new filter caps were bypassed with WIMA & Solin film caps. There are now LED lights in the very cool VU meters (which have been calibrated by a pro tech along with the other settings). The top cover and the chassis have been damped & the junk feet have been replaced with real rubber ones all to reduce vibration. The phono wires have been replaced with cryo treated Cardas shielded phono cable. The output connectors were replaced with copper 5 way binding posts. In every way this is a very seriously good sounding amp. The volume/EQ controls were originally silver and I thought that was just too monotone so I first sprayed them with etching primer as they are plastic and had metalized paint, then I sprayed them with high quality black paint- I think the sliders really make a nice statement.
