JBL LE20 TWEETER “NEARLY MINT”. Beautiful JBL le20 tweeter. This tweeter has been sine swept from 2K hz - 20K hz (the camera doesn’t focus well on the techtonix led display. It actually is reading 12,421 cycles) I could hear the tweeter up to slightly above 13K hz, that is probably as high as my hearing will go. These particular tweets are fairly linear from 2K hz to 9K hz, then there is a slight bump of a couple db at 10K hz, then the tweeter starts to fall off after the 10K. Greetings vintage audio enthusiasts and JBL lovers and collectors. For your consideration is a pair of 8 ohm JBL LE20 high frequency reproducers a.k.a Tweeters ! Made by James B. Lansing Sound in Los Angeles, California USA ,these components look and sound great ! They test 3.8 ohms and 4.1 ohms respectively on my Fluke 777 multi- meter. I looked around a little and this seems on par for these drivers. The driver without the red JBL seals seems like it was repaired, but it works fine. Only one driver has the white gasket. Please, look closely at the attached images as they are a part of the description and help provide a good idea as to the condition of these items. I assure these items will arrive as described. These are genuine JBL components, but theyre painted green from the JBL factory to match Heathkits color scheme. Cosmetically, theyre just about perfect with practically no damage to speak of. Offered for your consideration is a vintage JBL Model LE20 2 inch Alnico magnet cone tweeter removed from my walnut-clad C53 Libra speakers, USA-manufactured c.1969. This quality JBL high frequency driver was also fitted in certain configurations of the period C36 Viscount, C38 Baron, and C56 Dorian speakers. So, please have a look at the large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable JBL tweeter is correct for your needs. This JBL tweeter is in clean, very good condition. The cone and voice coil dustcap were well-protected behind the acoustically-transparent metal screen. The screen does, however, have a few small dents, as pictured. Plus, the heavy iron magnet pot is rust free with foil product decal in place. There are just some minor chips to the black crinkle enamel on the magnet pot and mounting flange which can, of course, be touched-up. What’s more, the LE20 has sturdy, metal spring-actuated +/- input terminals, and both are working properly. It’s a far better system than JBL used on the following LE20-1 with just red and black wires soldered to input terminals at the magnetic pots base (and no protective screen on most versions, either). Most importantly, the LE20 sounds very clear and strong as you’d expect from this level of JBL—detailed upper midrange and crisp highs exceeding the audibility threshold. Plus, it has the coveted Alnico magnet warmth of tone. And, I tested its DC resistance at 4.8?, consistent with an 8 ohm nominal driver rating. Lastly, the large faceplate measures 5” diameter, the entire assembly stands 2?” tall, and the two mount holes are spaced 4½” apart, c-t-c. So, if you have a blown or damaged tweeter in your C53, or other suitable JBL speaker, you’ve found the right listing—your cherished speakers will be sounding their finest once again in no time! Plus, it’s a wise spare to stash away for future needs before the JBL collectors hoard them all away! A pair of JBL LE20-1 tweeters in excellent cosmetic and fully working condition, taken from a pair of Lancer 77s but of a design widely used in JBL speakers of the late 60s-70s. The decor plates that conceal the mounting screws have been carefully removed with no creasing so can be reused. These are 16 ohm AC impedance units which measure as 4 ohm DC resistance which while unusual appears typical for this design.
