For sale is a Marconi (EMI) Type 25 Pick-Up for 78 rpm records. When I bought this around 5 years ago it was completely NOS, unused in its original box. Unfortunately the box was quite tatty so I disposed of it as I had no intentions of removing this from the turntable I mounted it to at the time. I believe it may have remained new old stock due to the hairline fracture in the Marconi logo badge (a separate piece of bakelite to the main body) and a further small hairline on one side of the head as photographed, both very minor and mostly unnoticeable. The pick up is incredibly clean for its age and works perfectly well. The bakelite still has a glossy sheen too. The internal magnet is still strong, all rubber suspension inside is still soft and supple and the output is perfect. These type 25s were considered a very fine reproducer and it still stands true today offering excellent reproduction for 78rpm records and are very compatible with modern hifi equipment which I have used this with. Steel needles are suitable but I have often used the steel stemmed diamond tipped type needles often used for 78 jukeboxes. These offer a better option as they can play well over 200 sides and minimise record wear. Overall a great addition to your gramophone as these were originally intended for, or (as I used it) perfect for adding to a 78rpm turntable and connecting to your hifi equipment.
