OK, I received solid verification that this radio is indeed factory built so I had to restart the listing again so everyone has a fair shot at this with full information. This listing is for a Heathkit SB-101 HF Ham Shortwave Radio Transceiver. I have now been able to prove it is Factory Wired.You can see in the added photo the QC stamp near the final amplifier on the one I am selling. These do not appear in ham-wired units as shown in the bottom comparison photo of my other SB-101. Also, I received the following email from someone who knows, as he has two of these factory wired radios: Hi, I dont know what the previous controversy was regarding Factory Service and Factory Built (didnt see your original listing) However, I can say without reservation that your unit was built in the Heathkit factory. Heathkit riveted in the pwbs with those style rivets in exactly that pattern. If you still have the label that you know to be original to that unit, look at it closely. The factory units shipped with a label that read SBW-101. The W stood for wired. The labels often get separated from the unit so maybe you dont have it but that unit was factory built. Attached is a Heathkit advertisement that lists the SB-101 as available in kit form for $370 or as a Factory Wired unit for $540. I have owned two of those factory wired units. Both had their labels SBW-101 and both had the riveted pwbs. Your SBW-101 is a special example of Heathkit units and yours is in beautiful condition. Dont let anyone tell you different. The label which is mentioned, generally posted on the LMO, is missing. This vacuum tube transceiver covers all pre-WARC 79 amateur bands in SSB and CW. The build quality is exceptional. The riveted-into-place PC boards show exceptional care taken by the builder in assembling this radio. Looking at the closeup of the RF drive board, you will see very little board dirt and no discoloration. This radio was not used very much. Cosmetically it is far above average with some nicks on the case but the paint is too nice to demand a repaint or overspray. You might be able to see in one of the photos that the VFO dial has a crack. I have a spare and will include it with the sale. If the selling price goes to the point at which I deem it worth my time, I will even install it for you. I already have a lot of time into it as you will see. I did need to do some work on it. Mostly the need for work resulted from lack of use.
