Here we have an apparently-complete 1960-era Hi Fi audio amplifier. The brand is Heathkit, the model is W4AM. The W denoted a Williamson design. If you know that that is, fine. If not, you wont care. It has been stored in a dry environment. The underside is a lot cleaner than the top side. Should have covered it up that last few decades. Darn! Date codes are visible on three of the five tubes, showing 1958 and 1960. The two 5881 output tubes have a three-letter code that tells us they were probably replaced at some time in the last 60-odd years. As a rule, an open 4-digit date code that you can read would be found only on tubes sold in bulk to a manufacturer. Tubes sold in single-unit cartons by your local parts guy would have a cryptic letter code. Pretty sure that was so the buyer wouldnt know how many years the tube had been on the local distributors shelf. I have not applied power to it, and I wont. Wouldnt want to spoil the lucky high bidders joy of discovery, after all. Hence the magic Ebay phrase: FOR PARTS OR NOT WORKING. I bought this decades ago as a potential retirement project. Just one problem. I havent retired and have no plans to do so. So out it goes. The cavalcade of abandoned retirement projects marches on. The tubes will be packed in a separate carton with plenty of bubble sheet for protection in transit. Its heavy. The carton will be large. Shipping will be stupidly expensive.
