The facelift to the Deluxe version included a wooden case with brushed aluminum front and slightly improved specifications in terms of frequency response and distortion. Harman / Kardon’s previous amplifiers had been tube designs, and the original Citation twelve was the company’s first transistorized power amplifier. The Citation twelve’s relatively modern design was based on a design suggestion published in the RCA Solid State Handbook.The Citation twelve deluxe features many of Harman / Kardon’s trademark design choices. On the one hand, it was one of the first truly dual-mono design amplifiers, featuring two transformers, two power supplies, as well as two separate amplifier circuits. On the other hand, Harman’s belief in the interdependencies of sound waves gave this amplifier the freedom to deliver frequencies from 1 - 100.000 Hz at +/-1 dB. This Harman Kardon Citation Eleven Preamplifier is in great condition and was serviced in August of 2023. Any components that were out of spec were replaced with a comparable or superior component.All controls were lubricated and cleaned. As with any vintage piece of audio gear, the controls may still exhibit some mils static when initially powered on. The faceplate was cleaned and polished. The wood cases has a fair amount of scuffs and scratches, but, it has been stained and polished so it looks pretty good. A wonderful sounding preamplifier, built like a tank. This one was bought back in the mid 70’s and shortly after purchase the previous owner became ill and he never opened the box.. it sat in the spare bedroom along with all of his other kit purchased that day until last well.. I had to open it just to check.. it still has it’s coiled cable. We have decided not to plug this in or test… we think this should be the job of the new owner… as this has been unused for 50 years, please be aware there may be age related issues.. waking up on a Variac is strongly recomended.
