Here is a working Hallicrafters Sky Buddy II. Also knowned as SX-119. This was one of the first Hallicrafters to use a superhetdroyne design. I have seen a few Sky Buddies on Ebay, but never one that actually worked - most were just junk for parts. This one WORKS. It covers 3 bands:Band 1 - 535 KHz to 1640 KHz (it has a built in ferrite antenna)Band 2 - 2 MHc - 5.5 MHzBand 3 - 5.7 MHz to 16.4 MHz ( you will need an outdoor antenna for band 2 & 3. I used my 40 meter dipole)I have restored Knight Scan Master, Heathkit GR-81 and this receiver works better than they did. What I have done to this radio:Replaced the power cord.Added a fuse.Replaced all tubes.Completely re-built the power supply ( all electrolytics had been removed).Added an extra filter circuit (1500 ohn and 47 microF capacitor). This was done to reduce the hum from 6 volts to 300 MV. I believe the transformer is way to small and to fix all power supply issues would need a larger transformer.Aligned the I.F. (lots more gain)Replaced a bypass capacitor in the audio section.Cleaned up the radio.What still needs to be done. The D.C. voltage is to high (185v), should be 150 v. Need to add voltage divider to the A.C. into the transformer. This radio was designed and built in the early 1950s when the A.C. voltage was near 105 V A.C.. This appears to be in good physical condition though it’s not too pretty, just as the photos show. It does power up and the needle gauge sweeps at power up and moves when the frequency is changed. Also the red frequency indicator bar seems to move as it should as the dial is rotated. The power cord is spliced and should be replaced. The former owner was an engineer with a company called Hallicrafters (yes, THAT one!). He apparently was there at the demise of the company and purchased a number of items from the R&D labs. I am auctioning off a number of them in the next month. Please pay particular attention to the meters I am offering as some of them are hard to come by. Pretty much all of them don’t have a Hallicrafters name on them. Some don’t bear any manufacturers name at all. Those that I was able to identify to a particular model of Hallicrafters radio are labeled. Otherwise, the Hallicrafters part number will help to identify it.
