I’ve been an audiophile since I was 12 and ordered my first amp and turntable thru the mail, after building my own speakers! Fast forward several decades, now I have more than I can handle. There are deals to be had, maybe you should have them, and get the same thrill I got when that first amp showed up on my porch. This is a vintage GRADO ‘LABORATORY’ TONEARM, the most sophisticated version of their famous wooden tonearm line. This was missing the rubber mounting disc when I first got it, but I tracked one down. It was rewired and had non-standard cartridge leads, but I fixed the latter with a BRAND NEW cartridge holder, purchased from Pats Audio Parts (a 40.00 value on its own). The rewire job was well done, so I left it. The supplied counterweight was too heavy, so Im including a nut, bolt, and washers to roll your own-- it works, but youve got to take care to assemble the stack of washers straight so it fits in the black aluminum nest. I soldered some gold-plated RCA sockets on the leads to play test, and it works (see last photo) . The set-up documentation is available online. This restored-to-functional Grado arm has a low start bid of TWO HUNDRED TWENTY-NINE DAMN U.S. DOLLARS. Sometime in its 60-odd year lifespan, this one acquired some modifications— a cut-down cartridge sled, a non-standard lead pattern to go with the non-standard leads; a different counterweight that’s almost certainly too heavy. It also lost its machined rubber plate that goes under the aluminum cone. Rather than undertake a restoration right away, I tested it as is, with an old Shure M7 cartridge mounted and some gold-plated RCA jacks soldered directly to the arm wiring (see the pics on my messy workbench). It worked, and sounded great. It’d probably be better to restore it- get a lighter counterweight, a new rubber plate, and re-solder the wires and get a new sled— but it will play just fine if correctly put together as-is. This listing is for both the Grado Wood Tonearm and the Stanton Cartridge and Stylus, needle attached. PLEASE NOTE: Missing black rubber base. Price lowered to reflect that. Sorry but I have no way to test this. It was working fine when I removed it from my HH Scott Stroboscopic turntable. It has been very well kept for years. Wood in the Tonearm is in VG shape and looks nearly new still. Please examine the photos for what is included in the arm. Sold as is in as shown condition. The two screws and small plate are included and shown in pictures for installing the cartridge onto the arm. This will be well protected in shipping. It will also be insured. It will ship via USPS Priority Mail. Sorry but no returns or partial refunds offered.

Offered are two Grado Lab Series wooden Tonearms and parts. They should be rewired or at least one of them should have current wiring redone. There are enough parts to possibly make two complete, definitely enough to complete one tonearm. The Grado wood series is a wonderful tonearm when set up properly. I was using one of these on my Rek O Kut for years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Look at the pictures to see what you are getting. Sold as is/where is for parts and or restoration. No Reserve!
