With a triple-tiered, solid oak base, turned-wood corner columns, an all-brass 30 horn, and a cut glass panel on the back of the cabinet through which the huge, single-spring motor could be viewed while the machine was playing, the Grand Opera was Zon-O-Phones flagship product from 1901 to 1904, and it remains one of the most collectible disc phonographs ever manufactured. The phonograph runs well, and its in good condition throughout. The traveling arm is an old replica, but all other parts -- including the V Concert reproducer, the support arm, the crank, the turntable, the brake, the horn and the horn elbow -- are original. Original cabinet finish, original cabinet decals and original beveled glass back. The cast metal bedplate is ornate and exquisite, and its nickel-plating is original. The turntable felt is original, with normal wear and scattered rends. Replacement felt is readily available from 3rd party vendors, if desired. Turntable diameter is 9, and there is no spring pin.The motor is in excellent condition, with plenty of torque, and the phonograph has no trouble making it through 7, 8, 9 or 10 records without needing to be re-wound. Gears are likewise in excellent condition, and the machine runs smoothly. The Concert V reproducer is in good original condition, with lettering still visible behind the mica. Scattered areas of pitting and nickel-wear on the plated surfaces. The tonearm alignment pin on the back of the reproducer is still intact. There are no cracks in the mica. The 30 brass horn is beautiful, with no dings, no dents, no cracks, no repairs, no veins, no problems. The elbow is original, and the solder joint is still tight. The crank is original and correct, with scattered areas of pitting and nickel wear. Im one of ebays best known, most highly regarded sellers of collector-quality antique phonographs. Ive been selling and shipping them for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, youll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because its been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldnt know a phonograph from a farm tool), and youll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you wont be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your bargain arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, youll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
