Description
Offered for your consideration is a vintage Genesis Physics Corp. “H50A” 1 inch inverted dome tweeter, USA-manufactured c.1975. This phenolic resin dome, ferrofluid-cooled high-frequency unit with heavy magnet structure was removed from my early-production Genesis I speakers. This is the original Genesis-design tweeter that they produced in-house using a Masonite board faceplate attached to a sizeable magnet, instead of simply buying them from a raw driver supplier the way most other companies did. The tweeter featured a protective grille which was eliminated early-on, making it a fairly scarce unit in today’s marketplace. It was also found in the early Model II and II, while later versions without the screen were used in the Model 1 (later version written as a number), 2+, 3+, V6, 6, and probably some other late 1970’s Genesis speakers. So, please take a look at my large photos, the measurements, and read the remaining description, to decide if this superb Genesis tweeter is correct for your needs. Although the listing is written in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) identical Genesis tweeters are available at time of this writing. Please choose if you’d like to buy one or both in the quantity field at the top of the listing. The shipping cost will be automatically calculated by eBay checkout. This Genesis tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. The inverted dome radiating surface has remained unharmed behind the sturdy metal screen. Plus, the faceplate is in great shape with no scuffs or cracks, and the factory tape covering the input leads is completely intact. There’s just some excess magnet epoxy on the back side, but that means nothing. And, the +/- terminals measure the standard .205”, positive has a factory-handwritten X next to it, and they have never been soldered on the spades. All-in-all, this vintage H50A tweeter is in outstanding shape. Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds very clear with excellent imaging and detailed presence beginning at upper midrange—it was crossed-over from the woofer at 1800Hz, rated to a sparkly 20kHz, and will support up to 100 watts input power so it’s a sturdy platform. What’s more, I tested the DC resistance at 5.3-5.6?, consistent with a 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the faceplate measures 4¾” square, the assembly stands about 1¼” tall including the screen, and the mounting holes are spaced 3¾” adjacent / 5?” diagonal apart, c-t-c. This is a nice find if your suitable Genesis model has a blown or damaged tweeter—your speakers will be sounding their best again in no time! Plus, it’s a great spare to have on hand since they’re encountered less and less frequently every year. As pictured and described, this early Genesis inverted dome tweeter with protective screen is offered at a competitive price.
