Garrard 301 SME 3009 Series 1 Decca MK11 1962. This has a bit of a story behind it. I bought this from a vintage clock specialist. He had acquired it in a deceased estate from people known to him in his village in Mid Wales, The turntable and tonearm were owned by the original owner from new until this summer, also I have every reason to believe the cartridge was too. It always amazes me how some equipment is trashed in a few years and other equipment is cherished and kept beautifully for 60 odd years. The gentleman that owned it bought the SME 3009 series 1 tonearm in 1959, this rings true as the 1st 300 3009s ever made had no serial number. This tonearm has no serial number. It sat in its box until 1962 when the Garrard 301 was bought when the owner returned from overseas serving in the Royal Navy. The next thing is the MK11 Decca cartridge. Designed and released around 1958. It is of note that the SME connection piece (the interface between cartridge and tonearm) is typical of that supplied with the series one in 1959. It is an SME product not Decca but made for Decca cartridges. This leads me to believe that both the tonearm and cartridge were bought at the same time. Also there was no other headshell with the turntable and I believe this Decca to be the only cartridge ever fitted. The next amazing fact is the cartridge plays perfectly at 3 grams, the stylus is clean and fresh. It makes you wonder how often it was used, my imagination has me believing it was, maybe, kept out of arms reach and just playing carols at Christmas who knows but the whole turntable is just so fresh. The paintwork is lovely, it runs silently and accurately with true speed with the control knob in the position in the photos. Take a look at the photo of the platter without the mat, its like new which is a real indicator of use and condition. The original Garrard mat had disintegrated sadly but Im supplying a quality heavy Technics rubber mat. The tonearm is unmodified and in honest condition, slight patina on the knife edge roof but otherwise lovely. It didnt have a bias arrangement which is typical of the original as the bias was an optional extra at the time. The bias weight and holder are new aftermarket bought by myself, the clip on the tonearm was made by me and gently clips into place and has left no marks. Ive added new oil to the bearing but it other than that its just like the day it was made. This is obviously a rare opportunity to own a real historical artifact in museum condition. I had toyed with the idea of buying a top of the range plinth but I havent had the heart to remove it from the hand made plinth that the turntable and tonearm have shared for over 60 years, I also think that the cream and black compliment each other, it is representative of the period. Giradischi Garrard vero vintage. Modello Ta MK2 prodotto tra il 1957 ed il 1960. Perfettamente funzionante. Quattro velocità 16/33/45/78 giri. Trazione a puleggia, con rumore quasi assente. Autostop a fine disco. Assemblato con il suo plinto originale 30x24x15 cm. Gli sono stati sostituiti i cavi con attuali buoni RCA e la testina con una Shure sc35 con puntina replica jico praticamente nuova, così da renderlo a tutti gli effetti un affascinante giradischi hi-fi stereo depoca. Suona come, e meglio, di molti giradischi entry level dal 70 ad oggi, e lo sto sicuramente sottostimando. Se necessario viene spedito con adeguato imballo, con piatto e testina separati.

Garrard 301 turntable and SME Plinth. Grease bearing schedule 1 model. Estimated date of production 1956. Was serviced, then stored for a number of years. Item in great condition. A few very light scratches on perspex of SME plinth as would be expected. Deck is immaculate considering age. Comes from HiFi perfectionists home and purchased from new. TRIXETTE VINTAGE RECORD PLAYER WITH GARRARD RC120 Mk 2 AUTOCHANGE DECK THIS AUCTION IS FOR A VINTAGE TRIXETTE RECORD PLAYER DATING FROM THE LATE 1950s. IT IS FITTED WITH A GARRARD RC 120 Mk2 AUTOCHANGE DECK WHICH HAS 4 SPEEDS AND IS SIMILAR TO THE LATER GARRARD 209. THE UNIT IS FINISHED IN A BLACK AND CREAM REXINE WITH A CLOTH SPEAKER GRILLE AND IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION CONSIDERING ITS AGE. AS FAR AS I CAN ASCERTAIN THIS UNIT IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CARTRIDGE WHICH HAS BEEN CHANGED OUT FOR A MORE MODERN TYPE UTILISING A FLIP OVER STYLUS AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE A NEW THREE CORE POWER CABLE. ALTHOUGH THE RECORD DECK IS IN WORKING CONDITION THE AMPLIFIER NEEDS A SERVICE AS THERE IS BACKGROUND NOISE SO THIS ONE IS SOLD AS SEEN. I HAVE STACKED IT UP WITH BOTH 45s AND 78s AND IT PLAYED THROUGH THEM FINE. SPEED SELECTION IS FINE AND TURNTABLE SPEED SEEMS ACCURATE WITH NO FLUTTER. TURNTABLE MAT HAS HARDENED AND COULD DO WITH REPLACING. AMPLIFIER WILL NEED RECAPPING AND MAYBE A VALVE REPLACEMENT. THERE ARE FOUR SPEEDS AVAILABLE AND ABOUT 8 RECORDS CAN BE STACKED ON THE SPINDLE TO PLAY ONE AFTER THE OTHER IN AUTO MODE. THE DECK UTLISES A FEELER ARM TO GAUGE THE SIZE OF THE RECORD SO THAT THE PICK UP KNOWS WHERE TO LAND. ADJUSTMENT HAS BEEN MADE SO THAT THE PICK UP TOUCHES DOWN IN THE CORRECT PLACE AND THE TRACKING WEIGHT HAS ALSO BEEN SET CORRECTLY. ONCE THERE ARE NO MORE RECORDS LEFT TO PLAY THE DECK WILL SWITCH ITSELF OFF. THE SIDE OF THE UNIT HAS THREE CONTROLS, ONE FOR ON/OFF/BASS AND ONE EACH FOR VOLUME AND TREBLE CONTROL. THESE ALL OPERATE SMOOTHLY WITH NO CRACKLE AT ALL. THE FABRIC GRILL IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH JUST A TINY LITTLE MARK TOP CENTRE (LIKE A PULLED THREAD) AND THE TRIXETTE LOGO IS ALSO PRESENT (THESE ARE NEARLY ALWAYS MISSING). THE REXINE COVERING IS PRETTY MUCH INTACT WITH JUST THE ODD MARK HERE AND THERE, THE WORST BEING A SMALL PIECE MISSING ON ONE SIDE OF THE LID EDGE BUT STILL VERY TIDY CONSIDERING ITS AGE. SOME OF THE BRIGHTWORK HAS TARNISHED (LID CATCHES & HANDLE COVERS) BUT THESE CAN EASILY BE REPLACED WITH REPRO PARTS IF REQUIRED. I WOULD PREFER COLLECTION OF THIS PLAYER AS IT IS A DELICATE ITEM BUT WILL POST WITHIN THE U.K. MAINLAND IF REQUIRED.
