~ Reasonable Offers Happily Considered ~ ------ THE ITEMS These are excellent entry-level audiophile dynamic speakers by Focal. They were manufactured in France. They feature Focals (previously JM Labs) famous inverted tweeters made of specialty Magnesium alloy, and high-quality replacement woofers. The boxes are solid and well-braced. The finish is black woodgrain, and seems to be a real wood veneer, though Im not sure of that. CONDITION These speakers work perfectly and are well-matched. The only issues are cosmetic. The veneer is separating in a few places, which likely can be fixed easily with glue. FREE LOCAL PICK-UP Astoria, NY 11102 (NO SHIPPING, sorry.) Theyre surprisingly dynamic with the right setup. They are very sensitive to placement. I got the best results with a minor toe-in and slight raked-back positioning, about 36-40 away from the rear wall. They work fine as close as about 14-24 from the back wall, however need a bit more space for good sound-staging. They need effective decoupling from stands, which I did with strips of Sorbothane. The best stands will be heavy and put the tweeter at or slightly above ear-height. EQUIPMENT PAIRING The sound depends heavily on the equipment used with them. The best choices are likely to be neutral and fast. They integrate well and very easily with subwoofers. They definitely benefit from high-gauge speaker cables, and good stand decoupling. Theyre very happy with both Class AB and Class D amps, both of which Ive used with them. Theyre not that hard to drive and respond well to smaller amplifiers.
