Here is a Fisher 500b that is ready for restoration. I purchased it in the spring to have it restored, but plans changed. I did play music through it and it sounded great, but it needs to be restored with new caps and on/off switch. I have brass caps to install in the knobs and the metal/mesh cover. Beautiful, champagne colored faceplate!

What a wonderful sounding amplifier/receiver! I purchased this amplifier in 2023 as restored to fully working condition from a local vintage hifi shop that has over 50 years in continuous business. I have listened to it for ~100 hours and it has performed magnificently! Generally, I have used it as an integrated amplifier, fed via a hifi DAC. I have also used the onboard FM tuner, which sounds wonderful. Has vintage and strong testing (very valuable) Fisher-branded 12AX7s in all the critical audio signal path spots, excepting the phono section which has brand-new matched Soviet 12AX7LPS. I bought a new quad of matched Russian Tung-Sol 7591s, and they have settled in beautifully. I find the TungSol to be a near-NOS sounding 7591, and far better than most new production 7591s. The amp/receiver operates as expected, although I cannot confirm the phono section sound quality as my 33rm turntable is broken at the moment (I snapped the arm when I moved!). I did play some 78s and it sounded as good as Ive heard the old 78s sound. The sound is natural, full-bodied, and powerful given proper speaker matching. It sounded quite good with my Dynaudio Special 40s.Cosmetically, it is in excellent vintage condition, with one exception--there is some of what I think is a spiderweb or dog hair behind the front glass panel--see the photos. The shop that restored the unit said that for whatever reason a prior owner glued on the front panel knobs; to remove the material they would have to remove the knobs to get behind the glass, and removing them would break them. Since the knobs are in great shape and are quite collectible in their own right, they chose to leave it as is outside of blowing compressed air to get out some dust. I think this was the right move as it didnt bother me at all.Otherwise, I can find no glaring faults, although it is of course quite old and shows some signs of use. It is very clean above and below, as you can see by the photos.I expect this wonderful fisher to give you years of service, although as with anything this old, there are no guarantees and no warranties. I will pack exceedingly well to make sure it arrives as pictured. I love these old amps, they are wonderful to listen to--I hope you do as well!
