Overview Shell-integrated MC cartridge, an improved version of the FR-7. It uses a unique push-pull power generation system with a 2-magnet, 4-pole magnetic circuit.This system generates power at four points, so that a large output voltage can be obtained even with a low-impedance coil. In addition, although the general system generates canceled current in the generator circuit, the FR-7fs magnetic circuit can generate positive output in the opposite direction even in the region where canceled current occurs. This improves the phase and crosstalk characteristics as well as the electrical conversion efficiency, resulting in higher output power. A samarium-cobalt magnet is used as the magnetic circuit material. These magnets have a higher coercive force and are less likely to self-demagnetize than ordinary alnico magnets, thus maintaining the initial characteristics of the magnetic circuit for a long period of time. The generator coil uses a completely air-core coil without a winding frame, which prevents unwanted magnetic materials from moving within the generator field and fundamentally eliminates distortion of the reproduced signal. The effective mass of the resonator is also reduced to about 2/3, resulting in a smaller mechanical impedance in the high frequency range. For the needle tip, a unique refined-contact needle made of solid 0.15 mm square diamond is used.The new method of using a refined contact needle combines the advantages of a line-contact needle with those of an oval needle, making it less susceptible to adverse effects (noise, etc.) caused by the warping of the disc and dust in the sound groove. The new needle is less susceptible to the adverse effects (e.g., noise) of warpage and dust in the sound grooves of a disc, and generates very little scratch and surface noise, resulting in a clear and uninterrupted playback sound. A special aluminum alloy cantilever is used for the cantilever.This is a straight cantilever made of a highly corrosion-resistant special aluminum alloy with optimum heat-hardening treatment (ceramic treatment) to minimize the moment of inertia and deflection during high-speed movement. The leading part of the string holder extends to the front of damper B, which makes the fulcrum position clearer. This clarifies the cantilever vibration fulcrum position and minimizes the cantilever vibration distance variation at each frequency.In addition, the string wire used to tension the cantilever is made of a material with a very high spring coefficient and little change over time, which contributes to the improvement of the square wave characteristics. A dual damper system is employed, with two layers of dampers with different rubber coefficients to effectively dump the mid-high and mid-low frequencies of the vibration frequency respectively, enabling ideal tracing over the entire reproduction frequency range.In addition, the rubber coefficients of damper A and B are different to reduce the total effect of temperature on tracing performance, mechanical impedance characteristics, and reproduced sound. To solve the problem of coil lead wires vibrating with the cantilever, coil lead wires are inserted and crimped between dampers A and B to eliminate unwanted power generation by the lead wires. The head shell is shaped to completely remove dead space that could cause parasitic vibration, which is detrimental to sound quality. The shell is made of a special aluminum alloy, which is impact-machined (cold-forged) to further increase rigidity and prevent split resonance. The cartridge body is made of epoxy resin, which was selected through careful audibility tests. To improve the lack of strength caused by rattling between the arm and connector section, a special stainless steel locking plate is used in place of the conventional guide pin. This allows for a more integrated connection with the arm, and the level can be maintained correctly.
