A refreshed look and Feliks Audio has looked very carefully to make the finish of the amp last longer. It is now more resistant to scratches and fingerprints.Quality build with wooden side panelsThe Echo’s Echo MK2 is made of sturdy solid metal with real wood side panels. The wooden panels along with the tubes give the appearance a hint of retro encased in a timeless minimalistic body. Despite being Feliks Audio’s most affordable model, the Echo looks and feels unquestionably premium.The front panel holds the 6.35mm headphone output and large Alps potentiometer in the center. But, that is because of the OTL design. The sonic signature of this family of tubes is more or less being bypassed in exchange for a neutral sound. This is a totally neutral or clinical experience.The Echo imbues the sound with a hint of extra warmth and earthy naturalness. It sounds richer, smoother, and more organic. The bass gains a little fullness and body, but the echo keeps it clean and pristine, preserving texture and definition.Like the bass, the midrange is lush, opulent, and full of nuance and texture. There’s no loss of fidelity or resolution, just a natural warmth that gives the music an inner glow. It reminds me somewhat of the Arcam irDAC-II with its smooth character and rich detail, but it has a more dynamic and lively feel.The Echo adds sweetness to the treble without dumbing it down or losing any detail. Hi-Hats and cymbals sparkle and are rendered with extra air, as if they’re feathered lightly. Note density is left intact and the treble is never left feeling too diffuse or washed out. But some of the edges are taken off, which is perfect for brighter headphones.All this takes place on a blissfully black background. The Echo has been crafted with premium components to keep the noise floor at a minimum, and this is especially noticeable when using sensitive headphones or in-ear monitors. Up for sale an excellent tube amplifier made by a boutique company, Feliks Audio. The model Echo is the first they came up with and the most affordable: nevertheless you may want to note that this is more powerful than the far more expensive Euphoria or Elise models, therefore retaining a certain advantage in driving low impedence headphones. In fact, it drives beautifully my Focal Clear, Meze 109 Pro and Hifiman Arya, all having low impedence. However, the main reason to recommend this is to use it with high impedence dynamic driver headphones. You will be astonished how much better the Sennheiser HD series sound with this small amplifier. I was so impressed that I went all the way to buy high-end driver tubes, choosing 2x Amperex PQ E88CC /6922 Gold pin Valve/Vacuum Tube (check on Ebay for how much those sell...) and that was the icing on the cake. Note that this is the original version. The newer MK-II sells for considerably more as brand new, 849 and only adds more inputs, which I would not need. You can buy new and tube roll for 250 and youd get probably close to 1100 for the same sound that this used, pristine unit delivers. In all honesty I had a Little dot mkIII and a Darkvoice in the past and never understood what was that tube magic that everybody raves about: it all changed with this. I now acquired a far more expensive Cayin HA-3A tube amplifier and need to sell this to cover part of the remarkable expenditure. I am not taking offers and I might even close the listing as, in fact, I am still unconvinced that the Cayin overall sound is better and might sell that one instead. Comes with 4x stock tubes, plus the mentioned 2x upgraded driver tubes, and large original box. There is a minimal defect in the base of one of the basis where one of the driver tubes attaches, making it a bit wobbly, but only when you switch tube: this is due to one screw falling inside the enclosure, which you can hear easiky if you shake it. It is an easy fix but I never bothered doing it as it is only a bit loose, not to the point of becoming worrisome.
