ComparisonsI have compared this DAC personally with the Denafrips Terminator, and the Holo Audio May DAC. I find its closer to the sound of the Holo Audio May DAC - more like flowing water, clean, pure, wide. The three DACs Id consider on the same level but different flavors. I think a good summary of the sound of the Comet Plus is Organic and technical - nice wide, natural stage, neutral. Easy to live with. Custom FirmwareI am the second owner. When I received the DAC, I realized the iOS/Android app was no longer compatible, so I ordered the Plus powersupply and the included remote directly from Exogal. Upon receiving the unit, I also played with the Preamp and headphone amp. Ill be direct and honest - I have better headphone amps and preamps. The DAC here is the star of this show. If youre interested in this, you probably already know that. I asked Exogal to disable the volume control, as I had a pre-amp and integrated amp I wanted to use, and every time it was power cycled required raising the initial volume from 0 to 100% (taking several dozen button pushes). Exogal flashed a custom firmware onto my DAC - as far as I know, the only one in existence - that starts the volume at 100. Upon power-up, all you need to do is unmute the DAC to get full volume. Ill also provide the original firmware files and flashing instructions if you want to go back (but why would you?), keep in mind that it will require ordering a serial cable adapter from Amazon and a bit of technical know-how. I wont be able to give you tech support beyond providing the instructions, sorry.
