Description
This sale is for a used Grundig Satellit 750 radio receiver that was manufactured by Tecsun for many years and is a favorite for program listeners on mediumwave, shortwave, and FM. The radio came to us as used and therefore has some minor cosmetic signs of ownership. We ask you to please carefully observe our high definition pictures so that you know what to expect when the radio arrives into your hands. Operationally the radio has been tested and worked very nicely and received signals with great sensitivity. The radio comes with a copy of the user manual plus a couple of reviews and promotional pieces. In addition, we are providing this user manual and these other documents on a CD for storage on your computer or for later reference. The Satellit 750 can be operated off of batteries (not included) or an AC adapter (non original but low noise adapter). This is a nice mid-sized entertainment package that is larger than a handheld radio, but smaller than the larger cousin the Satellit 800. It will sit easily on a tabletop, your office desk, or your bedroom nightstand. It can be carried on the outing for the family picnic, taken to your camp in the woods, or packed in the RV. AM/FM radios are a dime a dozen. But having a radio with optimized AM and a rotating ferrite antenna to pick up those distant signals is very uncommon. If you like to hear more distant AM broadcast stations for tuning into your favorite sports teams or perhaps hearing your favorite talk radio hosts, this Satellit 750 will give you a better chance of capturing them than most radios manufactured which have a short cheap ferrite antenna. By rotating the ferrite antenna on the top of the radio, you will be able to better capture the signal or perhaps null interfering signals. In addition to a great AM/FM radio, the Satellit 750 offers you the world on shortwave. During the daytime, there are only a handful of stations that broadcast on shortwave. Some of them are interesting, others are not. We enjoy listening to the alternative news on 7490 and 12160 KHz that differs greatly from what you will hear on TV. But in the evening, the traditional evening shortwave bands come alive. The prime time to listen to shortwave in eastern USA is from about 5-10 pm. During this time, you can hear such countries as Radio Romania, Voice of Turkey, and Radio Havana Cuba. These broadcasts are in English and usually heard very with strong signals offering cooking recipes, news, travel information, and of course, music. It is important to know that unlike traditional AM and FM broadcasts that transmit on set frequencies year round designated by the FCC, shortwave transmissions can change frequencies depending upon season, time of the day, or even station management decisions that sometimes defy logic. There are always strong shortwave broadcast stations that remain on frequency with little or no change over time, but other stations may move around and it is sort of like taking a fishing rod and reel to that favorite lake and casting it around to see what you can catch on any given day. By having countries agree to abide by designated shortwave bands, unnecessary tuning across the large shortwave spectrum is eliminated. Unlike standard AM and FM broadcasts, you will enjoy listening to those unusual sounds and signals even if not in the English language. In addition to the standard shortwave signals, this radio can decode sideband signals so that, depending upon your location and time of day, you have the ability to also hear amateur radio transmissions. A lot of the amateurs spend time on the air chatting with friends about the news of the day, their favorite movies, and what equipment they own. Other amateurs belong to nets that communicate at a set time and frequency for either social or for emergency purposes. While there are a lot of amateurs that broadcast worldwide, it is more likely that without an outside antenna that you will hear mostly those amateurs in the USA due to the lower power of their transmitters. And for as many amateur radio operators that transmit, there are far more people that listen to them than participate in the discussions. We have learned a lot of unusual information over the years from casually monitoring such signals. Our elderly father who lived alone would tune to such signals to occupy him on a day when he could not get out of his home (he has since passed away). The Satellit 750 is a very nice radio that has great audio and allows the user to tailor the sound using the tone controls to meet your listening preference. It has a beautiful analog s-meter which allows you to see the relative strength of the received signal. You can use the timer to automatically turn the radio on to awaken you in the morning or the sleep timer to turn the radio off after you fall asleep in the evening. In addition to the AM, FM, and shortwave signals, the Satellit 750 offers an air band. We do not live near an airport, but if you are in the vicinity of such signals, this radio can expand your listening selection with communications from air control towers and airplanes. The radio has lots of features that may not be immediately apparent including the ability to tune via direct entry, via the tuning knob, or using the up/down buttons. On AM (mediumwave) and shortwave, you can select between narrow or wide bandwidth to eliminate nearby side channel interference or deliver better fidelity. While the speaker offers the listener good sound, for privacy, you can connect a pair of headphones or perhaps a pillow speaker. There is an audio input for you to amplify your cell phone or MP3 players music through the radios nice speaker and inputs for you to connect an external antenna for improved signal reception. This radio is a classic beauty that is black with a grey face, but displays military styling with the large carry handle at the top and the front side grips which serve to also protect the front panel from damage (and to assist in placing the radio face down to change the batteries). In low light or dark rooms, there is a beautiful amber colored front panel lamp that enables you to see the display and s-meter and is reminiscent of the day when tube radios offered the listener such a warm glow on those cool evenings. We have attempted to provide some basic information regarding this Satellit 750 radio, but invite you to research the radio to learn more of what you may expect to experience with its ownership.
