The Empire 980 tonearm combines the two most sought after qualities in arm design, free suspension and perfect dynamic balance. Perfect dynamic balance is achieved by placing the pivot points at the precise centre of the arms mass. Once in balance in one plane, it is balanced in all planes. Even the application of stylus force does not upset this balance, for in the 980 the force is not adjusted by moving a counterweight, and thus shifting the centre of mass. A linear torque coil spring acts directly on the pivot shaft at the centre of the arms mass and stylus force is dialled in with a calibrated knob. Features include low fundamental resonance, exact cartridge positioning, height adjustment, a 5-wire circuit to avoid ground loops, maximum compliance and low inertia. For sale is a tonearm cable for the Empire 980 tonearm, appearing on the Empire 398, 498, and sold individually as well. The cable does NOT work, so it is being sold for parts/as is. Perhaps the connector could possibly be salvaged to make a new cable? I never could get a signal to pass through it, and never spent much time trying to figure out why.

I used this cable for several years - it DOES pass sound well, however can be finicky about the RCA input positions and will produce a loud hum if positioned a certain way. If that happened, I just rotated the RCA inputs a little until it went away. It was never a big problem for me. If I didn’t touch it, I wouldn’t have any issues with it. As such, this is being sold as NON-FUNCTIONAL/for parts. I make no guarantees that you will have the same experience with this. Cosmetically it’s in good shape, with a few cracks in the rubber insulation, consistent with something that’s 60+ years old. RCA inputs seem to hold on the female connector firmly.

EMPIRE 98 TONE ARM with REST and WIRING You must know what you are bidding on. I am told this is an Empire model 98 Tonearm. It has no markings - I originally had it listed as a 980 but have been advised that it is a model 98. As you can tell I am not an expert on the item. Please dont bid if it is not what you are looking for. What you see is what you get. There is no head-shell or cartridge. The Anti-Skate seems like it will work OK. It seems to move smoothly. The wiring as removed is included. The rest is included. The screws from the installation are included. Internal wiring status is unknown - obviously this is a tinkerers project and is not ready for use.
